PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jyrska Velmu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Chen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Velmu might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to UFO - Doctor Doctor. Shawn Chen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jyrska Velmu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shawn Chen!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chen instigates a clinch.
Chen misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Chen lands a shoulder strike.
Velmu is trying to drag Chen to the mat but Chen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Velmu drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A right hook to the body lands for Chen.
Velmu goes for a takedown attempt but Chen pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jyrska Velmu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chen jabs Velmu to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Chen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Velmu gets tackled into the cage by Chen. Chen maintains the clinch.
Chen lands a nice uppercut.
Velmu changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Chen fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Velmu shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chen as he avoids it easily.

Chen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Velmu.
Velmu misses with a body shot.
Jyrska Velmu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velmu lands with a hook. Chen tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Chen thows a body shot but no joy.

Chen tries to sprawl but Velmu drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Velmu passes the guard and advances to mount!
Velmu has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Chen's face.

Velmu thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Velmu tries to control but Chen wriggling away.

Velmu with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Poor strikes thrown by Velmu there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Velmu is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Velmu trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The referee warns Chen that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Velmu scoring with strikes but Chen is staying in there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Velmu postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Chen out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Velmu goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!
