Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlo Labayen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Valery Sutkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlo Labayen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Valery Sutkin!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sutkin lands with a thumping leg kick.
A cross from Sutkin lands.
Labayen lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Labayen throws a solid leg kick but Sutkin takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Labayen.
Sutkin lands with a nice body kick.
The crowd cheers as Sutkin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Labayen doesn't seem phased though.
Sutkin connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Sutkin throws a series of punches but Labayen avoids them all with ease.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sutkin throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Labayen throws a one two combo.
Sutkin throws a head kick that misses

and Labayen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sutkin!

Labayen goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Sutkin is on top in guard.
Sutkin stays in close to Labayen's body and controls the position.

Sutkin tries to free his leg and advance position but Labayen is retaining full guard.
Sutkin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Labayen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Labayen dives in and grabs Sutkin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sutkin pushes down on Labayen's head and hops out.

Labayen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Labayen digs a right hand into Sutkin's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Sutkin's gas tank.
Labayen lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Labayen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Labayen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Labayen is working for a guillotine from mount but Sutkin frees his head quite easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Labayen content just to control the position here.
Labayen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Labayen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Carlo Labayen will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sutkin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sutkin tries a head kick but it misses.
Sutkin misses with a two punch combination.
Sutkin misses with a series of wild punches.
Valery Sutkin seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Labayen instigates a clinch.
Sutkin wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Sutkin is trying to push Labayen away but Labayen has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Labayen tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sutkin smiles and moves away.

Labayen rushes Sutkin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sutkin wants to break free but Labayen has control.

Sutkin has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Sutkin wants to break free but Labayen has control.
Labayen is looking for a takedown.

Labayen has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Sutkin regains guard immediately.
Labayen trying to control the position from guard on top but Sutkin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sutkin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Labayen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Labayen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sutkin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Labayen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sutkin's guard.
Carlo Labayen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sutkin is looking to stand up but Labayen isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Labayen feints and as Sutkin raises his hands in defense, Labayen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Labayen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Sutkin getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Sutkin throws a right hand that Labayen ducks under and follows up with a left that Labayen also avoids with ease.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sutkin tries to bum rush Labayen with a series of wild strikes but Labayen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sutkin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Labayen with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sutkin to score with a decent uppercut.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Labayen.
Sutkin throws a right and a left that both miss.

and Sutkin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Sutkin tries to keep at a distance but Labayen has taken the fight into the clinch.
Labayen tries to pull guard but Sutkin holds him up against the cage and eventually Labayen drops back down to his feet.
Labayen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sutkin pulls his leg out and moves away.
Labayen misses with a kick to the body.

Sutkin lands a right hook to the body.
Labayen dodges the punch combination from Sutkin.
Labayen walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Sutkin checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Carlo Labayen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Labayen lands a slapping body shot.

Labayen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sutkin to the mat! Sutkin manages to get full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Carlo Labayen.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Labayen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
