Alves connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Valadares Jr to the floor! Alves dives in looking for the finish!

Alves really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Valadares Jr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Valadares Jr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Valadares Jr has his foot on Alves's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alves works his way back into a safe position though.

Alves has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Valadares Jr is proving hard to escape from.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Valadares Jr is on top in guard.
Valadares Jr is pushing down on Alves's leg trying to pass to half guard. Alves is fighting to maintain full guard but Valadares Jr has managed to sneak the leg through.

Valadares Jr wants to work for an arm triangle but Alves is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Valadares Jr wants to free his trapped foot but Alves is holding on for dear life with his legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Valadares Jr is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Alves is just riding it out for now. Valadares Jr eventually gives up the hold.
