PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mikhail Burh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saku Vippera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mikhail Burh has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mikhail Burh seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mikhail Burh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Saku Vippera!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burh shoots in for a takedown but Vippera shows good takedown defense.
Burh shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vippera but Vippera pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Burh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vippera as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikhail Burh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vippera takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Burh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vippera as he avoids it easily.

Vippera shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Vippera fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Burh is trying to escape the mount.
Vippera takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Burh throws a right and a left that both miss.
Burh has his takedown stuffed
and Vippera counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Vippera connects with a high kick.
Burh digs a good hook to Vippera's body.
No joy there for Burh, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mikhail Burh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Vippera counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Burh's guard now.
Burh is breathing heavily.
Burh wants to get back to his feet but Vippera is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Vippera wants to control from the top but Burh keeps moving.

Burh looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burh keeping moving, preventing Vippera from controlling successfully.

Vippera is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Burh has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Vippera off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Vippera drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Vippera looking to sit in guard and control but Burh gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Vippera doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Burh postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Vippera is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Burh, into his guard.
Burh manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vippera tries to reverse the position but Burh maintains control.

Burh looking to secure an arm triangle but Vippera defends it well.
Vippera is just holding on here. Burh manages to take his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vippera tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Vippera tries to reverse the position but Burh maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saku Vippera dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Vippera has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Burh!

Vippera pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vippera prevents Burh from standing back up.

Vippera wants to take a breather but Burh is having none of it.
Vippera is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Vippera wants to control but Burh is keeping him busy.

Vippera throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Burh wants to control but Vippera is keeping busy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Vippera throws a low kick but Burh avoids it.
Vippera will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Vippera counters with a shoot takedown. Burh fights it but they end up in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saku Vippera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Burh counters with a stiff right hand.
Burh scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Vippera misses with a head kick.

Vippera scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Burh is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Vippera's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Vippera's back!

Vippera is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Vippera slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fight stays on the outside here - Vippera looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Burh manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Vippera is looking to take a break and control but Burh is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Burh makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Burh.
Burh is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Burh is really struggling to control Vippera but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Vippera wants to stand and escape but instead Burh has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Burh would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mikhail Burh has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Burh wants to get up but he can't break Vippera's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

I've got Vippera winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
