PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between JJ Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Daddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Johnston might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Shackler's Revenge - Guns N Roses. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnston misses with a right hand

and Daddy counters by clinching up.
Johnston throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Johnston goes for a takedown attempt but Daddy pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Johnston drives through with a takedown into Daddy's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Daddy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Daddy has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Daddy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Daddy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Johnston is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Daddy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Johnston pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Daddy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnston is fending him off so far but Daddy persists. Nope, Johnston circles away and we're back to standing.

and Daddy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnston's guard.
Johnston wants to sweep here but Daddy controlling him for the moment.
Daddy wants to control from the top but Johnston keeps moving.
JJ Johnston overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Daddy might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnston kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Big Daddy wasn't active enough on the ground.

Daddy stands and steps away. Johnston gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Johnston throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Horrible takedown by Daddy or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnston which made him look bad.
JJ Johnston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Daddy.
Daddy is breathing heavily.
Johnston shoots for a takedown but Daddy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Daddy shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnston tries to sprawl out of it but Daddy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnston manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Daddy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnston doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnston manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Johnston fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Daddy avoids it really well and circles away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Daddy closes the distance and pushes Johnston back into the cage.
Johnston jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Daddy walks away with a smile on his face. Johnston gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
