The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silva.
Silva tries to bum rush Mendes with a series of wild strikes but Mendes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mendes as he jumps to the side.

Mendes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mendes showed some decent athleticism there.

Silva has one foot on Mendes's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Silva decides to return to a standing position.
Silva doesn't manage to clinch there - Mendes circles away.

Mendes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Silva pushes Mendes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mendes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Mendes has hold of Silva's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Silva tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mendes cranks the arm and Silva screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Silva, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
