PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Finley Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and RR Iron Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Iron Man comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mr. Papabol kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Finley Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, RR Iron Man!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Stewart drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Stewart wants to control from the top but Iron Man keeps moving.
Stewart is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Stewart is looking to stand up but Iron Man won't let him.
Stewart wants to control from the top but Iron Man keeps moving.

Finley Stewart has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Stewart shoots in looking for a takedown. Iron Man tries to sprawl out of it but Stewart keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Iron Man manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Iron Man connects with a single shot there.

Stewart darts in trying to clinch

so Iron Man counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Iron Man sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stewart's guard.
Stewart is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Iron Man's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Iron Man's back!
Iron Man is keeping busy.

Stewart wants to control but Iron Man is keeping busy.

Stewart wants to control the position but Iron Man frees himself and scrambles - Stewart manages to regain control in side control.

Stewart seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Iron Man does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Stewart content to control rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Finley Stewart just wasn't active enough.
Stewart tries to clinch up but Iron Man circles away and keeps his distance.

Stewart throws a right and a left that Iron Man avoids nicely.
Iron Man fails with the takedown
and Stewart makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Iron Man closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stewart circles away.

Iron Man darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Iron Man looks gassed!
Iron Man thows a huge punch but Stewart dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Iron Man throwing shots but Stewart is blocking nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stewart manages to get to full guard.
Stewart is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Finley Stewart will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Stewart darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Iron Man avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Stewart.
Iron Man is staying active underneath Stewart, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Stewart trying to pass the guard but Iron Man defending well.
Stewart is keen to just control but Iron Man is a slippery customer.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Finley Stewart wasn't doing enough on the ground.

and Iron Man decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Stewart's guard.

Iron Man is looking to work some ground and pound but Stewart has wrist control.

Stewart pushes Iron Man off and gets back to his feet.
Stewart tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Finley Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stewart is looking to chop away at Iron Man's legs.
Stewart shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Iron Man as he jumps to the side.

Iron Man really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stewart. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Iron Man in side control lands a decent elbow.
Iron Man is chipping away with strikes.
Stewart taking punishment in the form of punches.
Stewart is not content to let Iron Man control the position.

Iron Man throws a strike but Stewart avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stewart is on top in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stewart drops back, looking for a kneebar! Iron Man looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Iron Man looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Iron Man!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

RR Iron Man showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Stewart tries to clinch but fails miserably

Stewart has hold of Iron Man's hands but Iron Man slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Stewart pushes Iron Man off looking to stand but Iron Man dives back in and keeps control.
Iron Man is trying to control the action in half guard but Stewart is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Stewart is not content to let Iron Man control the position.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Iron Man manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Stewart on his heels. He'll look to pass Stewart's guard now, I'm sure.

Stewart has his foot on Iron Man's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Iron Man works his way back into a safe position though.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

RR Iron Man comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Iron Man has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

RR Iron Man tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
