PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Rizal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Evens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Evens's choice of entrance music: ac dc-Back in Black. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Rizal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Josh Evens!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizal tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Evens paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Evens throws a shot to the body.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Evens!


It looks like Jose Rizal has been cut.
Evens tried to score with a low kick but Rizal checks it.
Evens throws a leg kick but Rizal sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Rizal dives in and grabs Evens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Evens pushes down on Rizal's head and hops out.
Rizal misses with a two punch combination.
Evens's corner calls for a 1-2. Evens obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Evens thows a body shot but no joy.
Evens throws a quick inside leg kick.
Rizal tries to close the distance and clinch but Evens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Evens throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rizal on the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Rizal or perhaps it was just good defense by Evens which made him look bad.
Evens bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Evens fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Evens misses with a leg kick.
Rizal shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Evens sprawls well. Evens wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rizal gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Rizal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rizal is defended easily by Evens.
Evens ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Evens leaves Rizal with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Evens stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Josh Evens is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rizal shoots in but Evens avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nice jab there from Evens.
Rizal looks for a takedown but Evens sprawls well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rizal throws a right and a left that Evens avoids nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rizal fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rizal misses with a low kick.
Rizal has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


Rizal is rocked!
Good exchange - Evens coming out on top.
Oh Rizal is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Evens throws a nice inside leg kick.
Rizal is breathing heavily.
Evens plants his feet and throws a brutal three punch combo that sends Rizal swiftly into unconsciousness! Right, left, right! Boom, boom, boom! Rizal face plants, battered and bloodied! He might never be the same again after that finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Josh Evens!
An out of breath and clearly excited Josh Evens thanked Charlie Wang's Nutrition and 95 % Laundry for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
