PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shane Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cliff Nash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cliff Nash will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Sherk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cliff Nash !
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sherk changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nash looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Nash is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Sherk creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Sherk gets to mount! Nash was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Sherk working the ground and pound effectively.
Nash is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sherk scoring with strikes but Nash is staying in there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nash throwing hammer fists to the chest of Sherk. What's that going to do exactly?
Nash manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Sherk throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Nash manages to get to full guard.
Nash has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sherk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nash swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nash looking for a guillotine here but Sherk defends easily.
Sherkis looking to pass into half guard but Nash pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Nash is in guard.

Sherk working for a triangle but Nash defends it easily.
Sherk wants to sweep but no luck.
Nash trying to control but Sherk is working from the bottom.
Sherk throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nash forces his way into half guard.
Nash passes the guard and advances to mount!
Sherk throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Sherk keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Nash throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

Sherk defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Nash .
Sherk is desperately trying to improve his position but Nash has a good base and remains in mount.
Nash works his way to his opponent's back.

Sherk is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nash has the hooks in. Sherk is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Sherk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nash on the ground.

Nash looking for the RNC.
Sherk breaks Nash 's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Nash looking for a sweep. Not yet Nash , not yet.
Sherk lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sherk distracts Nash with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Sherk throws a strike but Nash rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Sherk wants to sweep but no luck.

Nash drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nash jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Nash wants to get up but he can't break Sherk's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Sherk looking for a sweep. Not yet Sherk, not yet.
Sherk can't keep his opponent in guard - Nash advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sherk is looking to improve his position.

Nash seems to be working for a kimura but Sherk defends the submission attempt.
Nash trying to control from half guard but Sherk is working away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sherk is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cliff Nash dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Sherk closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sherk lands in his opponent's guard.
Cliff Nash has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nash keeping full guard, as Sherk tries to pass.
Nash is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sherk pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nash is keeping the position for now.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Nash looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Nash bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sherk's guard.
Nash tries to free his leg and advance position but Sherk is retaining full guard.
Nash pushing down on Sherk's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Sherk wants to improve his position but Nash is controlling well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sherk flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Sherk on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sherk tries to get out of the position.

Sherk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nash passes the guard and advances to mount!

Nash sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Nash is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Sherk is in real trouble.

Sherk wants to control his opponent's hands but Nash gets his hands free.
Sherk covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Nash throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Sherk wants to control his opponent's hands but Nash gets his hands free.

Nash working for a choke but Sherk is defending well.
Sherk tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sherk regains half guard.
Sherk flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Nash wants to work for an arm triangle but Sherk is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Nash not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Nash is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Nash wants to pass the guard but Sherk is defending well.

Sherk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nash thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Nash wants to take a breather but Sherk is having none of it.
Nash moves nicely into side control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sherk tries to lock up and control but Nash gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Sherk is looking to improve his position but Nash isn't that keen on the idea.
Nash looking to control but Sherk is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cliff Nash showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Sherk closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Nash is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sherk's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sherk's back!

Nash is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Sherk won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Nash off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Cliff Nash !
