PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hb Pencil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karim Chamakh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chamakh has chosen Immortal - Unearthly Kingdom as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hb Pencil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karim Chamakh!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Fedor Mirinova and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chamakh looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pencil is fending him off so far but Chamakh persists. Nope, Pencil circles away and we're back to standing.
Pencil shoots in for a double leg but Chamakh sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A looping hook to the body misses from Pencil. Chamakh does a little dance to reset his feet.
A combination from Pencil does no damage.
Pencil misses with a wild combination.
Chamakh checks a low kick from Pencil.
Chamakh misses with a jab to the body
and Pencil counters with a head kick. That will keep Chamakh thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Pencil takes a swing at Chamakh's ribcage but misses.
Pencil throws a left and a right that both miss

and Chamakh counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pencil's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pencil looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Pencil looking for a guillotine here but Chamakh defends easily.

Pencil is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Chamakh postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Chamakh seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Pencil has his foot on Chamakh's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chamakh works his way back into a safe position though.

Pencil has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chamakh can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hb Pencil will probably get the nod.
That's time! Pencil's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Pencil tries a head kick but it misses.
Pencil throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chamakh's waist but Chamakh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pencil off to one side.

Pencil fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pencil throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Pencil displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Chamakh throws out the jab.

and Chamakh counters with a nice body shot.
Chamakh takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Pencil has Chamakh up against the cage in a clinch.
Chamakh tries to score a body lock takedown but Pencil shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Pencil is trying to break the clinch but Chamakh is controlling him.
Chamakh wants to take the fight to the mat but Pencil manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Pencil is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Chamakh is defending well for now.
Pencil is pushing Chamakh up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Chamakh has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Pencil is trying to keep an underhook but Chamakh manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Pencil is working to get back to half guard.
Pencil wants to hold on but Chamakh pushes him away.
Chamakh controlling the pace for now.

Pencil is wriggling around trying to escape.

Pencil wants to control but Chamakh is having none of it.
Chamakh looking to finish Pencil with some ground and pound. This is bad for Pencil!
Karim Chamakh has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pencil is working to get back to half guard.
Pencil is in a horrible position here. Chamakh smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pencil is looking to improve his position but Chamakh isn't that keen on the idea.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chamakh avoids the attempt from Pencil to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Karim Chamakh will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Pencil tries to keep at a distance but Chamakh has taken the fight into the clinch.
Pencil is trying to pull guard but Chamakh has him pressed against the cage.
Pencil gets underhooks to prevent Chamakh's takedown attempt.

The referee warns Pencil that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Pencil is trying to maintain the position but Chamakh is very close to passing his half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Pencil has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chamakh is working away from the top position though.

Pencil moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Chamakh must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Chamakh sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pencil's guard.

I would just about give that final round to Karim Chamakh.
I think Chamakh has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
