PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Hattingh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jalil Mahmoudi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Mahmoudi's choice of entrance music: CAUTION!!! VULGAR AS F^CK. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, George Hattingh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jalil Mahmoudi!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hattingh.
Mahmoudi is looking for a sweep.
Mahmoudi manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hattingh's best efforts.
Hattingh throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hattingh throwing shots but Mahmoudi is blocking nicely.
Mahmoudi is not content to let Hattingh control the position.
Hattingh looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Mahmoudi wants to control but Hattingh is keeping busy.
Mahmoudi preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Mahmoudi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hattingh fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


It looks like Jalil Mahmoudi has been cut.
Hattingh ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mahmoudi moves away.
A head kick misses from Hattingh.
Mahmoudi blocks a head kick by Hattingh.
Hattingh takes a body punch but keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hattingh scores with a jab to the jaw.
Hattingh misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
An inside leg kick lands from Hattingh.
Hattingh falls off balance throwing a combination

and Mahmoudi counters with a shoot takedown. Hattingh fights it but they end up in guard.
Mahmoudi wants to control from the top but Hattingh keeps moving.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mahmoudi postures up in Hattingh's guard and throws a big left but Hattingh blocks it.
Mahmoudi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jalil Mahmoudi.
Hattingh throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
George Hattingh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mahmoudi scores with a leg kick.

Hattingh clinches with his opponent.

Hattingh lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mahmoudi can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hattingh looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Mahmoudi manages to get to full guard.
Hattingh has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mahmoudi is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Mahmoudi manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Hattingh is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mahmoudi throws some wild stikes that Hattingh manages to avoid easily.

Mahmoudi looking for a guillotine from mount but Hattingh is having none of it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that George Hattingh will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Jalil Mahmoudi's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Hattingh rushes Mahmoudi and presses him up against the cage.
Mahmoudi jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hattingh walks away with a smile on his face. Mahmoudi gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Hattingh misses with a lunging right hand

and Mahmoudi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mahmoudi wants to pass the guard but Hattingh is defending well.
Mahmoudi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hattingh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mahmoudi passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hattingh!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hattingh tries to hold on but Mahmoudi pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mahmoudi is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hattingh to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hattingh shrugs it off.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mahmoudi is in the full mount, landing strikes.


It looks like George Hattingh has been cut.
Mahmoudi lands a heavy elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mahmoudi sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Jalil Mahmoudi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mahmoudi throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Hattingh might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mahmoudi pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.


George Hattingh's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at George Hattingh's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Jalil Mahmoudi!
During a confident post fight interview, Jalil Mahmoudi thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
