PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Bateman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bateman comes into the arena with Huey Lewis and the News - Hip To Be Square blaring out of the sound system. Tom Sato is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Roberts and Anthony Taglia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sato falls off balance throwing a combination

and Bateman counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Bateman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Bateman throws a big elbow that misses.
Sato keeping moving, preventing Bateman from controlling successfully.

Sato looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bateman pushing down on Sato's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Bateman is keen to just control but Sato is a slippery customer.
Sato tries to roll over but Bateman keeps him under control.
Bateman is trying to control the action in half guard but Sato is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Patrick Bateman.
Bateman shoots in for a double leg but Sato sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Sato cracks Bateman with a right hand to the side of the head.

Sato gets caught flat footed, as Bateman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sato wants to get back to his feet but Bateman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Sato escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bateman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bateman missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Bateman stands and steps away. Sato gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Bateman moves in looking to clinch but Sato pushes him off.
Bateman takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

It looks like Patrick Bateman has been cut.
Bateman lands an overhand right.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sato tries to clinch but Bateman moves out of range.
Nice takedown defense from Sato. No joy for Bateman on that attempt.
Sato throws a nice looking combination but Bateman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A punch combination from Sato misses.
A big left from Sato misses.

Bateman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bateman lands strikes from half guard.

Bateman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sato's head.
Bateman takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Bateman is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sato doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bateman.

Bateman uses his free foot to push down on Sato's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sato.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bateman pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Bateman lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Sato is desperately trying to improve his position but Bateman has a good base and remains in mount.
Sato is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Sato is rocked!

Sato is still in real trouble! Can Bateman finish him?

Bateman is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sato has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sato!

Bateman wriggles free and stands up.

Bateman closes the distance looking for a takedown. Sato stuffs it but Bateman still has hold of him. Bateman picks Sato up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Bateman slams Sato to the floor and that's really hurt Sato - he doesn't know where he is! Bateman throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
