Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quinton Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taras Kovriga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Taras Kovriga will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Quinton Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Taras Kovriga!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson dodges the punch combination from Kovriga.
A combination from Jackson does no damage.
Kovriga throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jackson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kovriga is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Taras Kovriga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kovriga keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jackson walks into a jab.


It looks like Quinton Jackson has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kovriga uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jackson.
Jackson slips under a jab from Kovriga.
Kovriga throws a lazy right hand but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Jackson comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Jackson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jackson showed some decent athleticism there.
Jackson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Jackson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Kovriga to stand up.
Jackson misses with a straight left.
Kovriga looks to throw the jab but Jackson is out of range.
Kovriga takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Jackson shoots in but Kovriga avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kovriga throws a right hand that Jackson ducks under and follows up with a left that Jackson also avoids with ease.
Jackson throws an off balance right hand
and Kovriga counters with a stiff right hand.
Jackson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kovriga.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jackson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Kovriga!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kovriga really wants to buck Jackson off and get back to his feet.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Jackson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Kovriga is looking for a sweep.
Jackson in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Kovriga tries to improve position but can't.

Jackson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jackson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kovriga ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Kovriga throws a series of punches but Jackson moves out of range.
Kovriga displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jackson throws out the jab.
Taras Kovriga is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Jackson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jackson lands in his opponent's guard.

Jackson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jackson takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No joy there for Kovriga, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kovriga slips a straight right by Jackson.
Kovriga swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Jackson to counter with a crisp jab.
Kovriga looks to land a right hand but Jackson moved out of range.
No luck for Jackson with that takedown attempt.
Jackson punishes Kovriga's body with a nice straight punch.
Jackson darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Kovriga lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jackson circles away quickly and effectively.
Jackson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kovriga circles away.
Kovriga throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kovriga is breathing heavily.
Kovriga falls off balance throwing a combination

and Jackson counters with a shoot takedown. Kovriga fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kovriga is working an open guard so Jackson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jackson lands with a shot to the body.

Jackson gets a double leg takedown into Kovriga's guard.

Jackson stands up and waves to Kovriga to follow him.

Jackson dives in and scores a takedown into Kovriga's guard.
Kovriga can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jackson controls the pace.
Kovriga tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jackson's corner is telling him to maintain position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Jackson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Jackson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kovriga looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Quinton Jackson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jackson stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Jackson feints and as Kovriga raises his hands in defense, Jackson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kovriga really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jackson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jackson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Jackson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Jackson decides to stand and escape the position.
Kovriga moves forwards but Jackson connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jackson is controlling the pace.
Kovriga won't allow Jackson to pass to mount.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jackson decides to return to a standing position.
Jackson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kovriga can do to turn this around?
Jackson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jackson dips to his left and cracks Kovriga with an uppercut!

Jackson lands a huge takedown. Kovriga is out but the ref is slow to react and Jackson lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Kovriga lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.
