Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez comes to the cage accompanied by Slipknot - Surfacing. Anthony Ramirez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Ramirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Mitchell!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ramirez forces Mitchell back against the cage and clinches.
Mitchell throws a head punch that misses.
Mitchell misses with a short punch on the inside.
Mitchell lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Ramirez backwards.
Mitchell wants to break free but Ramirez has control.

Mitchell has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ramirez uses from the top position.

Mitchell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ramirez manages to get himself to full guard.

Mitchell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ramirez tries to avoid it but Mitchell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ramirez to the ground. Ramirez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ramirez is breathing heavily.

Mitchell shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ramirez's guard.

Mitchell stands and steps away. Ramirez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mitchell connects with a jab.
Mitchell misses with a head kick.
Mitchell throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mitchell tries to bum rush Ramirez with a series of wild strikes but Ramirez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mitchell looks to land a combination but Ramirez avoids it well.
Mitchell cracks Ramirez with a good jab.
James Mitchell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ramirez throws a nice looking combination but Mitchell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Horrible takedown by Mitchell or perhaps it was just good defense by Ramirez which made him look bad.

and Mitchell decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ramirez's guard.
Ramirez wants to get back to his feet but Mitchell is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mitchell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mitchell pushes down on Ramirez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Mitchell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ramirez is trying to stand up here but Mitchell is controlling him well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mitchell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ramirez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mitchell misses with a wild body shot.
Mitchell is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ramirez.

Mitchell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Mitchell avoids the attempt from Ramirez to control.
Mitchell lands with some strikes.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ramirez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Mitchell pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Ramirez is wriggling around trying to escape.

Poor strikes thrown by Mitchell there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mitchell tries to control but Ramirez wriggling away.

Mitchell working for a submission but Ramirez is keeping him at bay.
Mitchell won't let Ramirez get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Ramirez is looking to improve his position but Mitchell isn't that keen on the idea.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Ramirez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mitchell's guard.
Mitchell will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mitchell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ramirez's guard.
Mitchell slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Mitchell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ramirez keeps working.

Mitchell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mitchell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ramirez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mitchell is controlling him well.

Mitchell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ramirez keeps working.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ramirez.
Mitchell is not content to let Ramirez control the position.
Mitchell manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Mitchell gets full guard.
Ramirez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Ramirez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Mitchell fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ramirez sprawls well initially but Mitchell persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
