The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melanko punishes Richards's body with a nice straight punch.
Richards scoring well with a low kick there.
Melanko throws a hook but Richards blocks it.
Richards throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

It looks like Jay Melanko has been cut.

A telegraphed right hand from Melanko misses the target.
Richards shoots in but no luck this time.
Richards takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

It looks like Aaron Richards has been cut.
Richards throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Melanko.
Richards avoids a punch combination nicely.
Richards looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Melanko scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Melanko fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Richards scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Richards postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Melanko to stand up.
Melanko thuds a left hand into Richards's body.
Richards dives in and grabs Melanko's left leg, looking for a takedown. Melanko pushes down on Richards's head and hops out.

No joy there for Melanko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Richards shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Melanko is wriggling around trying to escape.
Richards has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Richards goes for an armbar but Melanko turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Melanko.

A close round but Aaron Richards will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.

Richards shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Richards was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Aaron Richards has got the better of the ground game so far.
Richards is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Melanko can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
