A fine choice. Kawa is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Nocarz. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vicente Otubro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mariusz Kawa!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Vladimir Khabensky and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawa works over Otubro's head and body with a nice combination.
Otubro is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kawa.
Kawa misses with a wild combination.
Kawa scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Otubro stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Otubro wants it to stay on the feet.
Otubro tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kawa swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Otubro lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kawa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kawa misses with the combination.

Kawa rushes Otubro and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kawa wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kawa stops a takedown attempt from Otubro.

Otubro breaks the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Otubro shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kawa as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vicente Otubro. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kawa shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Otubro manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kawa wants to control from the top but Otubro keeps moving.
Kawa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Otubro trying to keep a closed guard but Kawa is proving a slippery customer.
Otubro keeping moving, preventing Kawa from controlling successfully.
Kawa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mariusz Kawa has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Otubro is looking to clinch.
Otubro misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A head kick misses from Kawa.

Otubro decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Otubro is breathing heavily.
Kawa looks like he's trying to stand up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Otubro is looking to take a break and control but Kawa is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kawa pushes Otubro off looking to stand but Otubro dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kawa keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Otubro wants to work for an arm triangle but Kawa is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kawa is staying active underneath Otubro, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kawa is trying to stand back up but Otubro is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Otubro is trying to control the action in half guard but Kawa is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kawa is positioning himself well to prevent Otubro advancing to mount.

Otubro is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Otubro is trying to work for a kimura but Kawa is defending well.
Otubro with the ground and pound but Kawa uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Otubro stops Kawa from standing up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Otubro advances position into side control!

Otubro has an Americana. Kawa didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Otubro is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Otubro hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Vicente Otubro!
