Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Heines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pavel Katasonov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Katasonov has chosen In Extremo - Wind as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joshua Heines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pavel Katasonov!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heines tries to clinch up but Katasonov circles away and keeps his distance.
Katasonov closes the distance and clinches up with Heines, looking for a takedown. Katasonov pushes Heines against the cage but Heines circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Katasonov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Heines won't allow Katasonov to pass to mount.
Heines is concentrating on defense, preventing Katasonov from advancing position.
Katasonov thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Katasonov thows a huge punch but Heines dodges it nicely.

Heines knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Katasonov on the ground.

Katasonov is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Heines can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Katasonov throws some wild stikes that Heines manages to avoid easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Heines tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Heines is bucking up trying to escape but Katasonov cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Katasonov looking to ground and pound but Heines is blocking nicely.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Katasonov moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Heines has worked his arm free - good work by Heines!
Katasonov looks up at the clock and then as Heines takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Katasonov smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Katasonov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Heines knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Katasonov lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pavel Katasonov dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Heines throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Heines ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Katasonov moves away.
Heines moves out of range of the strikes.
Katasonov fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Heines has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Pavel Katasonov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Heines takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Katasonov fails to land the takedown.
Katasonov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Katasonov throws a series of punches but Heines avoids them all with ease.
Katasonov shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Katasonov thows a body shot but no joy.
Heines misses with a lunging right hand
and Katasonov counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Heines gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A telegraphed right hand from Katasonov misses the target.
Katasonov moves out of range as Heines strikes.
Joshua Heines is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Katasonov scores with a leg kick.
Katasonov throws a shot from downtown. Heines moves away and avoids it.
Katasonov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Heines sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Katasonov somewhat.
Joshua Heines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pavel Katasonov.
Heines jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Heines lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Katasonov stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

A nice inside leg kick there by Katasonov. That's going to slow Heines down.
A bone on bone clash there as Heines blocks the leg kick.
Katasonov lands a slapping body shot.
Katasonov fails to land with a series of punches.
The fighters circling - Heines throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Katasonov throws a leg kick which misses Heines's front leg but catches the back leg as Heines tries to avoid it.

Katasonov throws a sloppy head kick and Heines moves out of range easily.

Katasonov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Heines sprawls well. Heines wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Katasonov gets slowly back to his feet.
Heines throws out a loose jab but Katasonov uses good head movement to avoid it.
Katasonov throws a predictable looking body shot
and Heines counters with a lovely straight right hand!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Katasonov dives in and grabs Heines's left leg, looking for a takedown. Heines pushes down on Katasonov's head and hops out.
Katasonov throws a series of punches but Heines moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pavel Katasonov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Katasonov.
Heines takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Katasonov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Heines is fending him off so far but Katasonov persists. Nope, Heines circles away and we're back to standing.
Katasonov lands a jab to Heines's midsection.
Heines throws a leg kick
and Katasonov counters with a low kick, right behind Heines 's knee.
Heines takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Heines takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Heines takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Heines stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Katasonov.

Katasonov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Heines looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Katasonov in side control, throwing shots but Heines defends.
Katasonov cracks Heines with a big right hand but Heines just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Pavel Katasonov has got the better of the ground game so far.

Katasonov has hold of Heines's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Heines tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Katasonov cranks the arm and Heines screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Heines, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Pavel Katasonov!
