PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Troy Cantwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Miguel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cantwin comes to the ring accompanied by Whispers In The Dark. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Troy Cantwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Patrick Miguel!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miguel throws a right and a left that Cantwin avoids nicely.
Cantwin misses with a low kick as Miguel jumps back.

Cantwin shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Cantwin looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Miguel is trying desperately to improve position.
Miguel is bucking up trying to escape but Cantwin cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Miguel keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Miguel swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Cantwin prevents Miguel from getting the reversal.

Cantwin stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Miguel blocks the body kick.
Cantwin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Miguel fails with the takedown
and Cantwin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cantwin moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Cantwin throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Cantwin fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Cantwin throws a right and a left that Miguel avoids nicely.
Miguel takes a jab right on the kisser.
Troy Cantwin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cantwin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Miguel is trying to defend but Cantwin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Miguel tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Cantwin has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Miguel is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Cantwin thowing shots but they're missing.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cantwin prevents Miguel from getting the reversal.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Miguel tries to hold on but Cantwin pushes him away.
Poor strikes thrown by Cantwin there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Cantwin lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Cantwin lands a heavy elbow.
Cantwin with shots to the head and body - Miguel looks very uncomfortable down there.


Miguel is rocked!

Cantwin with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Miguel is still in real trouble! Can Cantwin finish him?

Cantwin stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Miguel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Miguel seems to have recovered his senses.

Cantwin shoots in and gets a takedown into Miguel's guard.
Miguel looks gassed!
Cantwin wants to pass the guard but Miguel is keeping the position.
Cantwin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cantwin trying to control the position from guard on top but Miguel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cantwin works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cantwin has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Miguel defend it? Cantwin steps over the head and cranks it - Miguel is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Cantwin!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Troy Cantwin!
