PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stanko Velilkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lasse Uzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Uzi has chosen Metallica - Iron Man as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lasse Uzi!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uzi is looking to clinch.

Velilkov darts in and clinches Uzi up against the cage.

Uzi manages to break the clinch.
Uzi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Velilkov.
Velilkov closes the distance and clinches up with Uzi, looking for a takedown. Velilkov pushes Uzi against the cage but Uzi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Uzi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Uzi stuffs the takedown attempt from Velilkov. Velilkov gets slowly back to his feet.

Velilkov tries to keep at a distance but Uzi has taken the fight into the clinch.

It looks like Stanko Velilkov has been cut.
Uzi is pressed up against the cage. Velilkov has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Uzi down to the mat. Uzi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Velilkov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Uzi swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Velilkov shoots in looking for a takedown but Uzi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velilkov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Velilkov shoots in but no luck this time.

Velilkov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Uzi's waist but Uzi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Velilkov off to one side.
Uzi misses with a series of wild punches.
Velilkov steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Uzi.
Uzi tries to clinch but Velilkov moves out of range.

Velilkov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Uzi avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Velilkov takes one on the chin but seems OK.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Uzi lands a good knee to the midsection. Velilkov won't want to take too many of those.

Velilkov lands with a straight right. Uzi didn't see that one coming.

Velilkov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Uzi pinned against the cage. Uzi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Uzi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Velilkov, pushing him back against the cage.

and Velilkov moves into the clinch.

Uzi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Velilkov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Uzi can't do much from the bottom here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Uzi is not content to let Velilkov control the position.
Velilkov is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Uzi doesn't manage to clinch there - Velilkov circles away.

Uzi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Velilkov dives in and grabs Uzi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Uzi pushes down on Velilkov's head and hops out.

Uzi isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Velilkov stacks Uzi on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Velilkov!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Velilkov stands up.
Velilkov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Uzi pinned against the cage. Uzi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Uzi throws a lazy right hand but Velilkov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Velilkov counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Uzi!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Velilkov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Velilkov seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Uzi for as long as he can get away with.
