And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dan a!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
a has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Rust.
Rust throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
a circles away from the clinch attempt.
Danga de danga de dang - Rust scores with a four punch combination!
A big left from a misses.

a shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rust's guard.
Rust keeping full guard, as a tries to pass.
a sitting in guard here, content to control.
a trying to control but Rust is working from the bottom.
a controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Rust scrambles and gets back to his feet.
a fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
a misses with a double jab.

and a decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rust's guard.
a showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
a won't allow Rust to sweep him here.
a passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Rust is trying to control but can't.
a prevents Rust from improving his position.
Rust is working hard here to advance position.
Rust is refusing to be controlled, as a sits in half guard.
Rust trying to hold on to a's head to control him but a postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Rust counters by moving into the clinch.

Rust tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. a just stands there and leans against the cage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now a is on top in guard.
a stays in close to Rust's body and controls the position.
Rust is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rust controls a momentarily but a frees himself.
a postures up in Rust's guard and throws a big left but Rust blocks it.
a tries to free his leg and advance position but Rust is retaining full guard.

Rust has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but a can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rust is breathing heavily.
a is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
a trying to control but Rust is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rust shoots in but a avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thomas Rust. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
a tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

a pulls Rust into guard.
a is pulling down on Rust's head. It's preventing any offense from Rust, at least for the moment.

Rust is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but a has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Rust is looking to defend but a has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Rust! a pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Rust taps out and this one is all over!
