The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from Rua.
A jab lands there for Phasian.
Nice shot lands for Phasian.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Phasian staying out of range there.
Phasian leaves Rua with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Phasian throws a jab when Rua was well out of range.
Phasian throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Rua slips under a jab.
A slapping body kick lands there for Rua.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Rua.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rua lands a left hand.
Rua lands with a left to the head.
Rua tries a body shot but Phasian blocks it.

Rua goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Rua misses with some punches.
Rua lands a left hand that snaps the head of Phasian backwards.
Rua lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Phasian or not.
A head punch on the inside from Rua fails to land.

A nice left hand lands by Rua.
Rua tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Rua breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rua slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Phasian takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

This has been an exciting period of action!
No joy there for Phasian, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Phasian missing with a left hand there. Rua was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Rua lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Phasian throws a jab when Rua was well out of range.

Rua is looking to slow Phasian down with leg kicks.

Kiro Phasian is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rua feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Phasian's calf.

Rua shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Phasian but Phasian pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rua throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Phasian takes a jab right on the kisser.
Rua closes the distance and clinches up with Phasian, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes Phasian against the cage but Phasian circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyoto Rua. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rua shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Phasian looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rua is one step ahead there.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Phasian can do anything to dispel that myth.

Phasian is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rua connects with a decent elbow.

Rua has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rua scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Phasian is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Rua can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
