PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Orpik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Paw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Orpik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Paw!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orpik tries for a takedown but Paw circles away easily
letting Paw counter with a right hand.

Orpik shoots in and bounces Paw off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Orpik throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Paw works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Orpik is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Orpik wants to control from the top but Paw keeps moving.
Orpik controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Orpik thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Orpik drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Orpik jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Paw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Orpik. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Orpik is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Orpik wants to pass the guard but Paw is keeping the position.
Paw wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Orpik shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Paw pinned against the cage. Paw gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Paw lands a nice shot to the body.
Paw throws out a powerful jab.
Orpik walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Orpik closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Paw wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Orpik.

Orpik is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Paw to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Paw shrugs it off.

Orpik breaks from Paw's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Orpik throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Orpik is looking for the choke from the back position but Paw is controlling his hands well.
Paw holding both Orpik 's hands and preventing any damage.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Orpik is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Orpik takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Orpik tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Orpik has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Paw has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Paw sizes up Orpik with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Paw's corner calls for a 1-2. Paw obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

The crowd cheers as Paw lands an impressive looking overhand right. Orpik doesn't seem phased though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Orpik shoots in looking for a takedown. Paw tries to sprawl out of it but Orpik keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Paw manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Brian Paw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Orpik is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Paw might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Paw is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Orpik has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jason Orpik.
I think Orpik has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
