PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Macgowan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Glen Benton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Macgowan's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Nyan Cat. On his way into the cage it seems that Justin Macgowan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Justin Macgowan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Macgowan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Glen Benton!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jorge Garcia and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Macgowan with that takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Macgowan or perhaps it was just good defense by Benton which made him look bad.
Macgowan shoots in and drives through. Benton sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Macgowan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Macgowan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Benton's waist but Benton gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Macgowan off to one side.

Benton has managed to clinch.
Benton on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Macgowan fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Benton has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Macgowan uses from the top position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Benton is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Macgowan defends well.
Macgowan chips away with some ground and pound.

Benton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Macgowan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Benton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Macgowan is aware though and is defending well.
Macgowan postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Macgowan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Benton's head.
Macgowan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Macgowan is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Macgowan connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Macgowan is working Benton over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Macgowan stands up over Benton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Macgowan engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Macgowan working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Macgowan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Macgowan is pushing down on Benton's leg trying to pass to half guard. Benton is fighting to maintain full guard but Macgowan has managed to sneak the leg through.
Macgowan is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Benton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Macgowan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Macgowan looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Macgowan lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Macgowan lands with a punch from half guard.
Macgowan not doing much here.
Benton tries to get to full guard but Macgowan has control of the leg.
Macgowan performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Macgowan drops an elbow to the side of Benton's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Justin Macgowan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Benton has Macgowan up against the cage in a clinch.
Benton gets underhooks to prevent Macgowan's takedown attempt.
Benton stalling in the clinch but Macgowan improves position.
Benton pushes Macgowan back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Macgowan blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Macgowan keeps control of Benton as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Benton wants to stall.
Benton tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Macgowan avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Benton has picked Macgowan up - he's going for a ride! Benton dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Benton is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Macgowan sees it coming and defends easily.
Macgowan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Macgowan.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Macgowan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Benton!
Macgowan looking to finish Benton with some ground and pound. This is bad for Benton!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Macgowan lands a big elbow.
Macgowan cracks Benton with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Justin Macgowan!
