Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ted Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Bruens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruens has chosen River Below as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The key to victory for Ted Knight has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ted Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Bruens!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knight swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Knight takes a swing at Bruens's ribcage but misses.

Bruens looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Knight!
Knight is looking to improve his position but Bruens isn't that keen on the idea.
Knight avoids a series of strikes thrown by Bruens.
Bruens controlling from the full mount.
Bruens is trying to control here but Knight has managed to regain half guard.
Bruens throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Knight has hold of Bruens's hands but Bruens slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Bruens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Knight's head.
Knight is looking to improve his position.
Knight gets back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bruens trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bruens wants to control from the top but Knight keeps moving.
Bruens trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Bruens preventing the sweep.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bruens accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Paul Bruens was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Bruens bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Knight's head.
Ted Knight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Knight looks to land a body kick but Bruens moved away.
Bruens showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Knight.
Bruens avoids the head kick by Knight.
Knight lands a head kick. Bruens smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Paul Bruens has been cut.
Bruens fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Knight manages to avoid it.
Bruens circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ted Knight is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bruens buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Bruens fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Knight to the ground. Bruens is now in Knight's guard.
Bruens stays in close to Knight's body and controls the position.
Knight is trying to keep Bruens in close.
Bruens postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bruens in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Knight controls Bruens momentarily but Bruens frees himself.
Knight is adopting a defensive guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ted Knight wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Bruens throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knight misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Knight checks a leg kick nicely.
Knight wants to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruens closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Knight quickly recovers to half guard.
Bruens is looking to advance position but Knight won't allow it.
Knight tries to roll over but Bruens keeps him under control.
Bruens takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Knight manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Knight will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bruens looking to sit in guard and control but Knight gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Knight has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bruens is proving hard to escape from.

Bruens wants to control the position but Knight says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Bruens is looking for a sweep. Knight is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bruens avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Knight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Knight is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bruens has managed to free his arm - good work.
Knight prevents Bruens from improving his position.

Bruens moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Bruens controls Knight momentarily but Knight frees himself.

Bruens is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Knight is aware though and is defending well.

Bruens lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Knight!

Bruens looking to control but Knight is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Bruens misses with some ground and pound and Knight recovers position to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Knight regains full guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Bruens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Bruens uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Knight.
Bruens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Knight pinned against the cage. Knight gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bruens fails with a takedown attempt.
Bruens takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Bruens looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ted Knight has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Bruens.
Bruens avoids a kick to the body.
Knight throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Knight throws a nice inside leg kick.
Knight rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bruens moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Knight misses the shot to the body.
Knight throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Knight is on top in guard.
Bruens lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Knight!

Knight wants to control from the top but Bruens keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Bruens working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Knight doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Knight manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bruens is desperately trying to improve his position but Knight has a good base and remains in mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Knight lands a heavy elbow.
Bruens is looking to improve his position but Knight isn't that keen on the idea.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ted Knight.
I think Bruens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
