Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eliézer Machado!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sato looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sato is pressing down on Machado's thigh, looking to free his foot. Machado is holding on for now.
Machado is trying to control but can't.
Machado blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sato.
Sato lands strikes from half guard.
Sato tries to pass the half guard into mount. Machado knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Sato throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Sato has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sato thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Machado's head.

Machado is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sato's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sato's back!

Machado throws a lazy right hand but Sato sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sato goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Machado moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Machado throws a body punch but Sato moves out of range.

Machado is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Machado checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Sato shoots for a takedown but Machado saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Machado looks to score with a jab to the body but Sato is just out of range.
Sato uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Machado.
Sato fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sato connects with a crisp jab.
Sato swings for the body but Machado moves out of range.
Machado throws out a loose jab but Sato uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sato lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Machado at a distance.
Katsuro Sato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sato misses with a body kick.
Sato shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Katsuro Sato. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sato closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Machado quickly recovers to half guard.
Sato thows a huge punch but Machado dodges it nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Machado can do anything to dispel that myth.

Sato postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Machado is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sato, into his guard.
Machado has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sato is proving hard to escape from.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sato lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Machado!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Sato's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


A looping hook to the body misses from Sato. Machado does a little dance to reset his feet.
Good shot there by Sato.
Sato will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sato takes a swing at Machado's ribcage but misses.
Machado moves out of range of the strikes.

Sato stuns Machado with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Sato looks to land a body kick but Machado moved away.

Sato closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Machado did well to prevent Sato getting side control.
Sato is stalling here. Machado is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sato seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Machado has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Machado tries to stand and escape but Sato is controlling the position.

Sato wants to get back to full guard but Machado has passed into side control.

Sato manages to work his way to half guard, despite Machado's best efforts.
Machado tries to stand but can't do so whilst Sato controls his leg.
Sato is looking to improve his position.

Machado wants to take a breather but Sato is having none of it.

Machado is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sato is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Machado pulls his head out easily.

Machado really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sato. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Eliézer Machado has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Sato has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
