Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Kerns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dwight Elkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kerns comes to the cage accompanied by Johnny Cash - Hurt. Elkins has chosen Care Bear Countdown as his entrance music. Dwight Elkins told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Kerns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dwight Elkins!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kerns misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kerns throws a leg kick but Elkins sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Elkins on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kerns. Kerns obviously looking to wear him down.
Kerns takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Jack Kerns has been cut.
A slapping body kick lands there for Kerns.
Kerns lands with an uppercut that bounces Elkins off the cage and back into range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kerns will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Kerns throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Elkins sees it coming and avoids it easily.

A bone on bone clash there as Kerns blocks the leg kick.
Elkins walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Kerns checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Kerns throws the left hand but Elkins avoids the punch easily.

and Elkins counters with a nice uppercut.
Kerns misses with a two punch combination.
Kerns scores with a nice right hand.
Elkins misses with a low kick as Kerns jumps back.
Elkins pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Elkins throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Elkins connects with a leg kick. Kerns looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Elkins misses with a straight left.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Elkins.
Elkins lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Elkins throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kerns turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Elkins darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Elkins ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kerns moves away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kerns fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Elkins checks it well.
Kerns misses with the body kick
and Elkins counters with a nice body kick.
Kerns is breathing heavily.
Elkins throws a push kick but Kerns slaps the foot to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dwight Elkins will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Elkins shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kerns as he avoids it easily.
Elkins bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kerns creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Elkins tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Elkins tightens his grip and picks Kerns up, before dumping him to the ground. Kerns manages to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Elkins pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kerns is keeping the position for now.

Elkins won't allow Kerns to sweep him here.
Elkins postures up in Kerns's guard and throws a big left but Kerns blocks it.

Elkins advances position into side control!
Kerns is not content to let Elkins control the position.
Kerns pushes Elkins away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Elkins gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Elkins scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kerns to see if he's OK.

Elkins connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Kerns some visible discomfort.

Kerns sneaks out the side door and pushes Elkins away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Elkins fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Elkins moves out of range of the strikes.
Kerns tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Elkins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kerns attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kerns is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Dwight Elkins seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kerns moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kerns throws a leg kick which misses Elkins's front leg but catches the back leg as Elkins tries to avoid it.
Kerns stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kerns wants it to stay on the feet.

Kerns throws a leg kick which misses Elkins's front leg but catches the back leg as Elkins tries to avoid it.

Kerns goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Kerns swings for the body but Elkins moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jack Kerns.
I think Kerns has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
