Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd East (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Todd East!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Columbo Gatti and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
East lands a right hook to the body.
Some wild striking there from East.
East connects with a good right hand that stumbles Rua. Rua circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

East closes the distance and pushes Rua back into the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, East creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
East blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Rua drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rua's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Todd East seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rua closes this distance looking for a takedown but East circles away.

East pushes Rua up against the cage in a clinch.
Rua can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Rua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
East slows down the pace here.
Rua is trying to work for a single leg takedown but East pulls him back up using the underhooks.

East makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
East pushes Rua back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Rua drops down looking for an ankle pick but East pulls his leg out and moves away.
Donk. East catches Rua right on the button with a cross.
East lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Todd East is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
East tries to clinch there but Rua circles away.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
East throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

A decent looking cross lands there for East.


Rua is rocked!
Rua dives in and grabs East's left leg, looking for a takedown. East pushes down on Rua's head and hops out.
Rua takes one to the chin there.
East connects with a right hand. Rua shakes it off.
Oh Rua is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rua tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but East swivels and escapes.
Rua seems to have got his legs back now.

East has taken the fight to the clinch.

East controlling the action here for a moment.

East throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Ruas head.

Rua misses with a hook to the ribs.
East throws a punch but it's blocked by Rua.
East lands a body punch in the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, East creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

East has Rua pressed against the cage, preventing Rua from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

East gets through Rua's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Rua jumps guard but East turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Rua trying to control the position but instead, East has worked for underhooks and has pushed Rua into the cage.
East lands on the inside with an uppercut.
East slowing the pace effectively.
East lands with a light punch inside.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
East scores with a nice hook to the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rua wants to stall.
Rua is trying to drag East to the mat but East just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Todd East dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


East misses with a few strikes there.
East tries to clinch

so Rua counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
East looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
East wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Rua is now in half guard.
East trying to hold on to Rua's head to control him but Rua postures up.
Rua is taking a breather. East says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
East is trying to control but can't.

East wants to get back to full guard but Rua has passed into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if East can do anything to dispel that myth.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rua working away.

Rua tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rua has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Rua working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Rua wants to control but East is keeping him busy.

East tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

East just trying to survive but Rua is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Rua wants to control but East is keeping busy.

Rua working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
East can't escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rua has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for East.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


A nice combination there by East.
Rua fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
East throws a nice looking combination but Rua bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
East connects with a good right hand that stumbles Rua. Rua circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
East rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rua moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Frank Rua is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rua swats away the attempt to clinch by East.
East lands with a straight right. Rua didn't see that one coming.
East misses with a body punch

and Rua counters with a takedown into side control.
East really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rua. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rua is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down East's shoulder. That is not cool.

Rua gets to mount! East was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Rua working for a submission but East is keeping him at bay.
East is trying desperately to improve position.
East wants to hold on but Rua pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rua content just to control the position here.
Rua's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Rua looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
East is working to get back to half guard.

East wants to get back to his feet.
Rua takes East's back.
East can't escape the position.
Rua is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Frank Rua overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

East is trying to defend against the choke here but Rua has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Rua Tightens the hold and East taps out furiously! Rua displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
