PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Muter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kris Kringle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kris Kringle was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Muter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kris Kringle!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muter fails to land the takedown.
Muter is looking to clinch.
Kringle fails to land the takedown.

Kringle instigates a clinch.
Kringle unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Kringle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Muter doesn't manage to clinch there - Kringle circles away.
Kringle wants to clinch up but Muter keeps it at a distance.
Kringle takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Kringle shoots in looking for a takedown but Muter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kringle's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kringle forces Muter back against the ropes and clinches.
Kringle tries to score a body lock takedown but Muter shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Alex Muter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kris Kringle.
Muter connects with a knee to the head.

Muter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kringle tries to clinch there but Muter circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kringle keeps the fight on the outside.
Kringle is looking to clinch.
Kringle has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Kringle shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Muter throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kringle.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kringle enables Muter to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kringle manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Muter trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kringle's guard.
Muter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Muter wants to control from the top but Kringle keeps moving.

Muter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Muter with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kringle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Kringle utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kringle avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kringle tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Muter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Muter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Muter trying to control the position from guard on top but Kringle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Muter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kringle is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Alex Muter just wasn't active enough.
Kringle tries to clinch but Muter moves out of range.
Muter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Kringle paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Muter wants to clinch up but Kringle keeps it at a distance.
Kringle shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kringle looks gassed!

Muter forces Kringle back against the ropes and clinches.
Kringle is trying to pull guard but Muter turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch.

Muter has Kringle pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Muter pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Kringle tumbling to the mat - Muter dives into Kringle's guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kringle wants to stand up but Muter is controlling him.
Muter lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Muter trying to control but Kringle is working from the bottom.
Muter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Muter trying to control the position from guard on top but Kringle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Muter dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

and Muter counters with a body kick.
Kringle tries for a takedown but Muter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kringle looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Muter throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kringle.
Muter connects with a high kick.
Kringle fails with a takedown attempt.
Muter is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kringle sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kringle wants to clinch.

Kringle has managed to clinch.

Kringle tries to land knees in the clinch but Muter avoids the damage to the body.
Muter is trying to pull guard but Kringle turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch.
Kringle tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Muter just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Muter fails with a takedown attempt.
Muter shoots in but Kringle avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Kringle wants to get back to striking at distance but Muter won't allow it.

Kringle lands a shot to the body.

Muter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Muter avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Muter lands with a slapping head kick.
Kringle swats away the attempt to clinch by Muter.
Some wild striking there from Kringle.
Muter throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kringle just misses with a punch to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Muter throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kringle was covering up waiting for the punch and Muter finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Muter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kringle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Muter passes Kringle's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kringle wants to get back to full guard.
Alex Muter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Muter is working for a kimura but Kringle is defending it quite comfortably.
Muter prevents Kringle from improving his position.
Muter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Muter missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kringle misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Muter is looking for a kimura here.
Kringle is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Muter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kringle tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Muter paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Kringle counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Muter is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Muter looks for a takedown but Kringle sprawls well.
Kringle takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kringle shoots in looking for a takedown. Muter tries to sprawl out of it but Kringle keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Muter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kringle keeps the fight on the outside.
The fight stays on the outside here - Muter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kringle throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Muter has managed to clinch.
Kringle on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Kringle tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Muter smiles and moves away.
Kringle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kris Kringle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kringle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That kick from Muter tenderised Kringle's leg. Kringle is trying to keep his angry face on.
Kringle fails in his attempt to clinch.
A head kick from Muter lands but Kringle takes it in his stride.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Kringle crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Muter - the referee stops the clock and Kringle gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Muter. Kringle manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Muter fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kringle has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Muter misses with a double jab.

Muter has closed the distance and engaged Kringle in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kringle avoiding damage as Muter throws knees to the body.
Kringle connects with a nasty looking knee right to Muter's face.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Muter breaks the clinch.
Kringle keeps the fight on the outside.
Kringle is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag.

Muter has managed to clinch.
Kringle unloads a knee to the mid-section. Muter lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Muter is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Kringle gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Muter tries to pull guard but Kringle forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Muter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Muter has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kringle after a bit of a struggle.
Muter wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kringle has him pressed against the ropes.
Muter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kringle just stands there and leans against the ropes.

A head kick from Muter lands but Kringle takes it in his stride.

Nice sprawl there from Muter as Kringle shoots in.
Kringle finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Muter clobbers Kringle with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The fight stays on the outside here - Muter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Muter is looking to clinch but Kringle is avoiding it.
Kringle closes this distance looking for a takedown but Muter circles away.
Muter throws a nice head kick!
Kringle wants to clinch.
Muter with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Alex Muter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Muter avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Alex Muter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Alex Muter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Muter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
