PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fred Rashaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fred Rashaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John White!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

White changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rashaw looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rashaw is being controlled here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Let's hope that White has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rashaw seems a little lost for a moment, as White dominates the positioning.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John White wasn't active enough on the ground.
White dives in and grabs Rashaw's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rashaw pushes down on White's head and hops out.
John White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rashaw throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and White counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
White misses with a series of wild punches.
White takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like John White has been cut.

White drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

White jumps guard but Rashaw turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

White breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
White misses with a takedown attempt - Rashaw sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
White shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rashaw defends it nicely.

and White counters with a leg kick.
Rashaw stuffs the takedown attempt from White. White gets slowly back to his feet.
Rashaw misses with a double jab
and White counters with a good low kick that Rashaw was not able to check.
White slips a jab and a cross from Rashaw.
White closes the distance but Rashaw moves to the side
and Rashaw counters with a series of strikes. White will be more careful next time no doubt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rashaw swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and White counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
White content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
It looks like White might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

No joy there for Rashaw, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice sprawl there from Rashaw as White shoots in.

White has Rashaw up against the cage in a clinch.
White is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Rashaw gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Rashaw wants to get back to striking at distance but White won't allow it.
Rashaw has had enough of the clinch but White keeps him there for the moment.
White stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Rashaw wants to break free but White has control.
Rashaw is trying to break the clinch but White has him pressed against the cage.
White prevents Rashaw from breaking the clinch.
White goes for a takedown attempt but Rashaw pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Fred Rashaw has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John White.

and White counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Rashaw stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rashaw wants it to stay on the feet.

White throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rashaw was covering up waiting for the punch and White finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Rashaw wants to get back to his feet but White is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

White gets to his feet. Rashaw looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Rashaw swats away the attempt to clinch by White.
A combination from Rashaw does no damage.
Rashaw throws a combination that misses
and White counters with a good low kick that Rashaw was not able to check.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and White counters with a left and a right that stings Rashaw.

and White counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
White is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by John White.
White throws a right and a left that Rashaw avoids nicely.
White fails in his attempt to clinch.
White lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rashaw backs up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rashaw throws a combination that misses
and White counters with a series of strikes that really hurt Rashaw! The ref looks into his eyes and sees nobody home - he's called the fight! This one is all over!
