PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Slone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bret Sane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sane is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Domination. Paul Slone looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Slone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bret Sane!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slone fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sane sprawls well initially but Slone persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Sane is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sane is trying to stand.

Slone is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Sane is defending against the submission attempts here by Slone.

Sane pushes Slone off and gets back to his feet.
Sane is looking to clinch.
Sane tries to clinch up.
Sane connects with a leg kick. Slone looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Slone is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sane fails with a takedown attempt.

Slone shoots in and bounces Sane off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Sane wants to sweep but no luck.
Sane keeping full guard, as Slone tries to pass.
Sane wants to get back to his feet but Slone is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Slone's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sane controls Slone momentarily but Slone frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Bret Sane wasn't active enough on the ground.
Slone fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sane shoots for a double leg takedown but Slone sprawls well. He's pushed Sane's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Horrible takedown by Sane or perhaps it was just good defense by Slone which made him look bad.
Paul Slone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bret Sane.
Slone swats away the attempt to clinch by Sane.
Slone doesn't manage to clinch there - Sane circles away.

Sane fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Slone avoids it really well and circles away.

Sane gets tackled into the cage by Slone. Slone maintains the clinch.
Slone prevents the takedown attempt.
Sane tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Slone just stands there and leans against the cage.
Slone just leaning against Sane, taking a breather.
Slone is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Sane is defending well for now.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Slone gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Slone is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Sane wants to get back to full guard.
Sane tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Slone landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Sane is trying to get back to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Slone prevents Sane from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Slone will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Sane throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Slone tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sane is in Slone's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Slone holds on and takes a little breather.
Sane throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Slone on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Slone tries to get out of the position.
Slone managing to control the position.
Slone is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sane is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Slone shoots in and bounces Sane off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sane not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Slone stopping the sweep attempt from Sane.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sane manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Slone tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sane is landing with some decent strikes but Slone is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Sane wants to control the pace but Slone is squirming around nicely.

Sane goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Slone is on top in guard.
Sane keeping moving, preventing Slone from controlling successfully.

Slone stands and steps away. Sane gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Sane changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Slone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sane is looking to take a break and control but Slone is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Slone is trying to control Sane's posture but Sane avoids it.
Sane avoids the strikes from the bottom by Slone.
Sane tries to stand but Slone is controlling his head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slone tries to buck Sane off but Sane is having none of it.
Sane trying to control the action but Slone is working from the bottom.

Sane working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Bret Sane has got the better of the ground game so far.
Slone is looking to regain half guard here but Sane keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bret Sane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Sane misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slone connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sane's hands.
Sane shoots in for a takedown but Slone shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Slone misses the body punch

Slone gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sane counters with a nice double leg into side control. Slone won't be happy with that.

Sane has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Slone pinned against the cage. Slone gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sane is looking to land body kicks.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slone has a takedown stuffed.
Sane misses with a body kick.
Sane shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Paul Slone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bret Sane.

Slone gets caught flat footed, as Sane shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Slone is trying to keep Sane in close.
Slone is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Sane lands a couple of elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Sane landing some decent shots from guard.

Sane drops back looking for a leg! Slone is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Slone manages to kick Sane off! Sane jumps back into Slone's guard.
Sane trying to control the position from guard on top but Slone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sane trying to stand up but can't free himself from Slone's guard.
Sane pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Slone is keeping the position for now.
Sane lands a couple of digs.
Sane postures up in Slone's guard and throws a big left but Slone blocks it.
Slone controlling the position.
Slone will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Sane drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sane jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sane wants to control from the top but Slone keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sane shoots in for a takedown but Slone shows good takedown defense.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bret Sane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sane has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
