PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Grove (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Belfort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alan Grove!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grove moves into the clinch.

Grove turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Grove manages to end up in side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Grove is putting a hurting on Belfort here, landing some big shots from side control.
Belfort parries the strikes from Grove easily there. Grove is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Belfort to escape.
You can see the frustration on Belfort's face as Grove controls the position.

Grove decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Grove is looking to take a break and control but Belfort is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Grove seems to be working for a kimura but Belfort defends the submission attempt.

Grove passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Belfort!

Grove is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Belfort is surviving well by controlling Grove's body position as best he can.
Belfort is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Grove is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Belfort can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Belfort wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Grove cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Belfort defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Grove.
Belfort's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Grove scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Belfort is in a horrible position here. Grove smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Belfort is trying to stand.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Grove is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Belfort has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Belfort really wants to buck Grove off and get back to his feet.
Grove content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alan Grove dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Belfort is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Grove has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Belfort is not content to let Grove control the position.

Belfort misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Grove is working to tighten is grip on Belfort's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Belfort has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Grove is really squeezing tight and eventually Belfort passes out! Grove breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
