PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Fitch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darryl Vermeulen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fitch comes to the cage accompanied by Till I Collapse- Eminem. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Fitch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darryl Vermeulen!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and William Peck.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Fitch lands.
Fitch swings for the body but Vermeulen moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fitch. Vermeulen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Vermeulen throws a hook but Fitch blocks it.

Fitch shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Vermeulen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Fitch advances to mount.
Vermeulen swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Fitch jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Vermeulen manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Vermeulen wants to get back to his feet.
Vermeulen takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vermeulen is looking to reverse the position.

Fitch tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fitch has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Vermeulen wants to get back to his feet.
Fitch has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Fitch tries to move into full mount but can't pass Vermeulen's legs.

Vermeulen wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fitch lands a few punches from side control.
Vermeulen is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Fitch is controlling him well.

Vermeulen is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Fitch working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fitch scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Vermeulen to see if he's OK.

Fitch tries to advance to mount but can't.
Fitch has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Fitch is landing with some decent strikes but Vermeulen is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Fitch lands a nice shot to the head.
Vermeulen is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Fitch cracks Vermeulen with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Vermeulen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fitch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fitch has hold of Vermeulen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Vermeulen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fitch lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Vermeulen is rocked!

Vermeulen is still in real trouble! Can Fitch finish him?
Fitch pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Fitch postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Vermeulen badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Fitch around the waist but Fitch pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Fitch is the winner by TKO! Fitch jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

During a confident post fight interview, Jon Fitch thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
