PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Abdual Jemall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teppo Turma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Turma has chosen Slipknot - Psychosocial as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Abdual Jemall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Teppo Turma!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jemall slips a straight right by Turma.
Turma slips under a jab from Jemall.
Turma is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Turma moves out of range of the strikes.

Jemall tries to keep at a distance but Turma has taken the fight into the clinch.
Turma drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jemall pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jemall looks to land a right hand but Turma moved out of range.
Turma blocks the body kick.

Jemall darts in and clinches Turma up against the cage.

Turma breaks the clinch.
Turma stuffs the takedown attempt from Jemall. Jemall gets slowly back to his feet.
Turma takes a kick to the side of the head.
Abdual Jemall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Turma checks a leg kick.
Jemall feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Turma's calf.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Turma scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jemall sneaks back into half guard.
Jemall is trying to maintain the position but Turma is very close to passing his half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jemall makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jemall.
Turma postures up and lands a big shot to Jemall's brow.
Jemall keeping moving, preventing Turma from controlling successfully.

Turma thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turma trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Turma throws a strike but Jemall rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jemall drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jemall jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Turma trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Jemall wants to control from the top but Turma keeps moving.

Jemall is in close to Turma's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Jemall wants to pass the guard but Turma is keeping the position.
Turma has his hands on Jemall's head, controlling the position.
Jemall working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Turma looking to control.
Jemall passes Turma's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jemall wants to control but Turma is keeping him busy.
Turma is pressing down on Jemall's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Turma escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jemall gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Turma has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jemall is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Turma.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turma sneaks back into half guard.
Jemall trying to pass the guard but Turma defending well.
Turma tries to get to full guard but Jemall has control of the leg.
Jemall is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jemall uses his free foot to push down on Turma's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Turma.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jemall is landing with some decent strikes but Turma is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
A nice elbow there by Jemall.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abdual Jemall dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

A cross from Jemall lands.

Turma is rocked!
Jemall takes a swing at Turma's ribcage but misses.
Turma is still on wobbly legs! Can Jemall finish him?

Turma gets a double leg takedown into Jemall's guard.
Turma seems to have recovered his senses.
Jemall is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jemall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jemall passes to full mount!

Turma defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Jemall.

Jemall postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Turma looks a forlorn figure.

Turma is looking for a sweep. Jemall is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Turma manages to get to full guard.
Jemall lands a couple of elbows.

Jemall avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Turma is on top in guard.
Turma is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jemall is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Turma has his hands clasped together but Jemall extends an breaks Turma's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Jemall.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Abdual Jemall!
A relieved looking Abdual Jemall thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
