Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lyoto Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and wu Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyoto Machado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, wu Kong!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machado avoids the head kick by Kong.
Machado could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kong shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Machado but Machado pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kong looks for a takedown but Machado sprawls well.
Kong fails in his attempt to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kong is defended easily by Machado.
Lyoto Machado has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of wu Kong.
Kong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Machado as he jumps to the side.

Kong has managed to clinch.

Machado breaks the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kong is defended easily by Machado.
Machado avoids the body shot from Kong.

Machado tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kong swivels and escapes.
Machado throws a right and a left that Kong avoids nicely.
Kong blocks a head kick by Machado.

Machado manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kong on his heels. He'll look to pass Kong's guard now, I'm sure.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kong can do anything to dispel that myth.
Machado passes into half guard.
Kong is looking to get back to full guard here but Machado has managed to pass to side control instead.
Machado postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Kong tries to improve position but can't.
Kong is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Machado is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Machado avoids the attempt from Kong to control.
Machado unloads with some shots from mount but Kong bucks and avoids them well.
Kong tries to control the position but Machado now has his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
I would not like to be Kong right now.
Machado has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kong can't escape the position.

Machado is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Kong has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Machado has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Kong has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lyoto Machado will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Machado moves into range and clinches up with Kong.
Kong tries for a takedown. No joy.
Kong tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Machado smiles and moves away.
Machado closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kong circles away.
Machado slaps away a takedown attempt from Kong, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lyoto Machado has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of wu Kong.
Machado rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kong moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nice sprawl there from Machado as Kong shoots in.

Machado shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kong's guard.

Kong is staying active underneath Machado, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Machado looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Machado is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kong has managed to free his arm - good work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Machado looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Kong wants to hold on but Machado pushes him away.
Machado trying to control but Kong is having none of it.
Kong is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kong is trying to reverse the position but instead Machado has taken his back - oops!
Kong rolls, trying to escape but Machado keeps control of the position.
Machado throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Kong swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Machado fails with a takedown attempt.
Kong wants to clinch up but Machado keeps it at a distance.

Machado closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kong did well to prevent Machado getting side control.

Kong controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Machado seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kong does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kong has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Machado is working away from the top position though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Machado changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kong tries to avoid it but Machado manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kong to the ground. Kong escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kong pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Kong moves into range and clinches up with Machado.
Machado is pressed up against the cage. Kong has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Machado down to the mat. Machado avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kong lands a nice leg kick that just misses Machado's sensitive parts.

Machado looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kong is fending him off so far but Machado persists. Nope, Kong circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyoto Machado. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kong misses with a takedown attempt - Machado sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Kong moves into the clinch successfully.

Kong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kong tries to close the distance and clinch but Machado swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
No luck for Kong with that takedown attempt.
Machado moves in looking to clinch but Kong pushes him off.
Kong throws a chopping leg kick but Machado manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Machado shoots for a takedown but Kong saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Machado tries to clinch there but Kong circles away.

Kong fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Machado, pushing him back against the cage.

Kong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kong.
wu Kong seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Machado tries to close the distance and clinch but Kong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Machado.
Horrible takedown by Machado or perhaps it was just good defense by Kong which made him look bad.
Kong fails with the takedown.
Machado avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A nice combination there by Kong.
wu Kong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lyoto Machado is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
