Locke is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Star Wars - Imperial March. Layne Fields could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to John Locke's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fields throws a head kick that misses.
Locke throws a head kick but Fields moves out of range.
Locke blocks a head kick by Fields.
Locke fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Locke throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fields tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Locke paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Locke throws out a powerful jab.
Locke misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fields.
Fields fails in his attempt to clinch.

Fields pushes Locke up against the cage in a clinch.
Fields has Locke pressed against the cage.
Fields misses with an elbow strike.
Fields tries to throw a body punch but Locke avoids it by throwing Fields back against the cage.
Locke takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like John Locke has been cut.

Fields breaks the clinch.

Locke throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Locke looks to land a left hand but Fields moved out of range nicely.

Fields tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Locke paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fields looks to land a right hand but Locke moved out of range.

Locke feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fields has control of Locke's left arm, preventing Locke from doing any damage.
Locke wants to control from the top but Fields keeps moving.

Fields can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Locke controls the pace.

Locke tries to free his leg and advance position but Fields is retaining full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Locke hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Fields throws a hook to the side of Locke's head but Locke sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Locke moves out of range of the leg kick from Fields.
Locke connects with a body shot that sends Fields's belly button to the back.

Fields closes the distance and pushes Locke back into the cage.
Locke tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Fields smiles and moves away.

Fields wants to clinch up but Locke keeps it at a distance.

Locke is trying to pull guard but Fields turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Locke wants to break the clinch but can't.
Fields landing knees to the body.
Locke tries to pull guard but Fields won't allow it.

The crowd cheers as Fields lands an impressive looking overhand right. Locke doesn't seem phased though.

Locke has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Fields.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fields is defended easily by Locke.

Locke is keen to just control but Fields is a slippery customer.

Locke drops back, looking for a kneebar! Fields looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Fields looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Fields!
Locke takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Locke manages to work his way to half guard, despite Fields's best efforts.
Layne Fields overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fields thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Fields is really struggling to control Locke but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Locke looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Fields looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Locke with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Locke loads up on a big right hand but Fields slips the punch.
Locke displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fields.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Fields.

Locke wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fields keeps working.

Locke is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Fields trying to hold on to Locke's head to control him but Locke postures up.

Locke is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fields defends it well.
Fields has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Locke is working away from the top position though.
Layne Fields is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Fields wants to get back to his feet.

Locke passes into side control, despite Fields's attempt to control the position.

Locke swings around for an armbar but Fields sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Locke's guard.
Fields has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Locke is proving hard to escape from.

Fields avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fields has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Locke has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fields can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fields is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Layne Fields.
Well Fields has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
