PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gendut Babi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dennis Marino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marino has chosen Most Exalted Potentate of Love-QOTSA as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Marino!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab from Babi.
Babi misses the body punch
and Marino counters with a right hand to the body.
Babi is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Marino.
Babi misses with a lunging right hand
and Marino counters with a series of strikes. Babi will be more careful next time no doubt.
Marino throws a right and a left that Babi avoids nicely.

Marino swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
letting Babi counter with a right hand.
Marino moves out of range of the strikes.
Marino looks to land a combination but Babi avoids it well.
Babi showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Marino.
Marino lands a nice shot to the body.
Babi shoots in looking for a takedown but Marino manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Babi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Babi changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Marino misses with a double jab.
Marino connects with a body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marino looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Babi throws a hook but Marino avoids it easily.

Babi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Babi fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marino avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gendut Babi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marino ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Dennis Marino is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Marino keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Marino throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A punch combination from Babi misses.
Babi misses with a hook to the body
and Marino counters with a one-two to the body.
Marino staying out of range there.
Marino jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Marino moves out of range as Babi strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Babi shoots for a takedown but Marino saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Marino will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Babi misses with a left hand

and Marino counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Marino.
Babi lands with a left to the head.

Babi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Babi throws a body punch but Marino moves out of range.
Babi shoots in but Marino avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Marino has closed the distance and engaged Babi in a clinch.

Marino turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Marino manages to end up in side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Marino tries to stand but Babi is controlling his head.
Babi manages to get back to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Babi manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Babi is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Marino rolls with it to try and escape but Babi cranks on the arm and Marino is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gendut Babi!
Our winner, Gendut Babi, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
