PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Celso De Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rango Mirceno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Mirceno's choice of entrance music: Battle Hymn. Rango Mirceno will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Celso De Souza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rango Mirceno!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

De Souza drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
De Souza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mirceno swivels though and keeps the full guard.

De Souza drops back looking for a leg! Mirceno is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mirceno manages to kick De Souza off! De Souza jumps back into Mirceno's guard.

De Souza thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
De Souza wants to stand but Mirceno is controlling his posture from full guard.
Mirceno looking for a sweep. Not yet Mirceno, not yet.

De Souza drops back looking for a leg! Mirceno is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mirceno manages to kick De Souza off! De Souza jumps back into Mirceno's guard.

De Souza postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mirceno is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of De Souza, into his guard.

De Souza is working an open guard so Mirceno takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Mirceno stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mirceno wants it to stay on the feet.

De Souza throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mirceno was covering up waiting for the punch and De Souza finishes the takedown easily into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mirceno is on top in guard.

De Souza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and De Souza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mirceno doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Mirceno bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in De Souza's guard.

Let's hope that Mirceno has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mirceno must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rango Mirceno hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Mirceno forces De Souza back against the cage and clinches.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mirceno is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

De Souza stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mirceno.

Mirceno decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Mirceno. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

De Souza shoots in for a double leg but Mirceno sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Rango Mirceno comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mirceno has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
