Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauri Nyrkki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Like Weeds by His Hero Is Gone. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mauri Nyrkki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, George Wood!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nyrkki sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wood somewhat.
Wood throws out a loose jab but Nyrkki uses good head movement to avoid it.

Nyrkki gets caught flat footed, as Wood shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Wood trying to control the position from guard on top but Nyrkki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Wood wants to stand but Nyrkki is controlling his posture from full guard.

Wood is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Nyrkki wants to sweep here but Wood controlling him for the moment.

Nyrkki looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Wood wants to control from the top but Nyrkki keeps moving.
Nyrkki controls Wood momentarily but Wood frees himself.

Wood gets to his feet - Nyrkki follows without any prompting.
Wood shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nyrkki but Nyrkki pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Wood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nyrkki sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wood somewhat.
Mauri Nyrkki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of George Wood.
Nyrkki throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Wood is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nyrkki's half guard.

Wood is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nyrkki is looking for a sweep. Wood is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Nyrkki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wood is working away from the top position though.
Nyrkki is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Wood is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Nyrkki defends it well.

Wood changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nyrkki tries to avoid it but Wood manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nyrkki to the ground. Nyrkki escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nyrkki tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Wood manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Wood shoots in but no luck this time.
Nyrkki is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Nyrkki lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Wood has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Wood and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Wood is looking to take a break and control but Nyrkki is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nyrkki is trying to improve his position.

Wood decides to stand back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wood shoots for a double leg takedown but Nyrkki sprawls well. He's pushed Wood's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nyrkki stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nyrkki wants it to stay on the feet.

Nyrkki lands with a nice body punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Wood dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Nyrkki takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Nyrkki just misses with a punch to the body.
Nyrkki throws a right and a left that Wood avoids nicely.
Nyrkki scores with a jab to the body.

Nyrkki closes the distance and clinches.
Nyrkki lands an elbow just above Wood 's eye.
Nyrkki misses with a hook to the ribs.
Nyrkki is struggling to control the position.
Nyrkki tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Wood avoids it.
Nyrkki scores with a shot to the side of Wood's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Nyrkki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wood throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Nyrkki throws a lazy right hand but Wood sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wood avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wood closes the distance and clinches up with Nyrkki, looking for a takedown. Wood pushes Nyrkki against the cage but Nyrkki circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Wood is breathing heavily.
Nyrkki is looking to clinch.

Nyrkki moves into range and clinches up with Wood.
Nyrkki comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Nyrkki stalling the fight.

Nyrkki's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wood takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Wood on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Nyrkki. Nyrkki obviously looking to wear him down.

Wood is rocked!

Nyrkki throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Wood tumbling to the canvas!
Wood is still in real trouble! Can Nyrkki finish him?

Nyrkki has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Wood seems to have recovered his senses.
Wood wants to stand and escape but Nyrkki is having none of it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Mauri Nyrkki has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Wood shoots in looking for a takedown. Nyrkki tries to sprawl out of it but Wood keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nyrkki manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Nyrkki takes the fight into the clinch.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Nyrkki takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Wood blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Nyrkki creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Wood's defenses.
Nyrkki lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Wood as Nyrkki tries to tie him up.

Wood breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nyrkki's corner calls for a 1-2. Nyrkki obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wood get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Wood stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Nyrkki runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mauri Nyrkki!
