Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jake Kerns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk wants to clinch.
Hawk uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kerns.
Kerns tries to clinch up.
Hawk tries to bum rush Kerns with a series of wild strikes but Kerns uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kerns rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hawk counters with a three punch combo that has Kerns backing up. Kerns nods at Hawk to acknowledge the strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hawk checks the leg kick.
Hawk throws a right and a left that Kerns avoids nicely.

Hawk lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kerns backs up against the cage.


It looks like Jake Kerns has been cut.
Kerns blocks a head kick by Hawk.
Mike Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hawk swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hawk misses with a double jab.
Hawk misses with a series of wild punches.
Kerns is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hawk.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hawk throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hawk lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kerns circles away quickly and effectively.
Hawk uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kerns.
Hawk tries to clinch up but Kerns circles away and keeps his distance.
Kerns throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hawk sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kerns throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Kerns goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hawk prevents it.

Hawk decides to pull guard.
Hawk is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hawk has his foot on Kerns's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kerns works his way back into a safe position though.
Kerns keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hawk's head.

Hawk is looking to stand up but Kerns isn't so interested in that idea.

Kerns pushes down on Hawk's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Hawk is in trouble now - Kerns has advanced to mount!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Kerns fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hawk to the ground. Kerns is now in Hawk's guard.

Kerns tries to free his leg and advance position but Hawk is retaining full guard.

Hawk is trying to keep Kerns in close.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kerns chips away with some ground and pound.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jake Kerns overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hawk is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kerns sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Kerns wants to control from the top but Hawk keeps moving.
Kerns lands a couple of digs.
Kerns keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hawk's head.

Kerns prevents Hawk from getting back to his feet.
Kerns throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hawk works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kerns trying to control the position from guard on top but Hawk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kerns seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hawk for as long as he can get away with.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kerns prevents Hawk from getting back to his feet.
Kerns might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Jake Kerns wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Hawk pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mike Hawk is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hawk moves in looking to clinch but Kerns pushes him off.

and Hawk counters with a one-two to the body.
Hawk misses with a head kick.
Hawk ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kerns moves away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hawk throws a shot from downtown. Kerns moves away and avoids it.

Hawk tries a head kick but it misses.

Hawk rushes Kerns and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hawk tries to break free but Kerns pushes him back against the cage.
Hawk prevents Kerns from breaking the clinch.
Hawk is trying to force a seperation but Kerns has the dominant position.
Hawk fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hawk tries to break free but Kerns pushes him back against the cage.
Hawk prevents the takedown attempt.
Hawk is looking to take this one to the mat.
Hawk takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hawk breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hawk shoots in looking for a takedown but Kerns manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hawk's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jake Kerns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Hawk.

Kerns takes a swing at Hawk's ribcage but misses.

Kerns rushes Hawk and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kerns tries to pull guard but Hawk forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Hawk tries to pull guard but Kerns won't allow it.

Kerns has picked Hawk up - he's going for a ride! Kerns dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kerns wants to pass to mount but Hawk is defending the position.
Kerns seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Kerns throwing shots but Hawk is blocking nicely.
Hawk has hold of Kerns's hands but Kerns slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kerns missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Hawk wants to get back to his feet.
Kerns is looking to take a break and control but Hawk is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kerns lands with a punch from half guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kerns seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hawk does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
