PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Uzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Paulsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Uzi's entrance music is Slayer - Angel of Death . A fine choice. Paulsen has chosen Turning Japanese as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jan Paulsen enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kurt Uzi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jan Paulsen!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paulsen lands with a right hand.


It looks like Kurt Uzi has been cut.
Paulsen misses with a few strikes there.

Paulsen tries to sprawl but Uzi drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Paulsen looks like he's trying to stand up.
Uzi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Paulsen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Uzi with the ground and pound but Paulsen uses the opportunity to regain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Paulsen is trying to control the position but Uzi postures up.
Uzi is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Uzi has gone for a leg lock! Paulsen slips out almost immediately though and dives into Uzi's guard.
Uzi keeping moving, preventing Paulsen from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Paulsen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Uzi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Paulsen has managed to get both his arms back between Uzi's legs - danger averted.

Uzi is looking for a triangle but Paulsen pushes his legs off easily.
Paulsen looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Paulsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Uzi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Uzi looking for a sweep. Not yet Uzi, not yet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jan Paulsen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Paulsen connects with a body shot.
Paulsen cracks the inside of Uzi's front leg.
Paulsen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Uzi.
Paulsen scores with a nice right hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters circling - Paulsen throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Uzi has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Paulsen.
Paulsen misses with a head kick.
Uzi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Paulsen sprawls well. Paulsen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Uzi gets slowly back to his feet.
Paulsen swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Uzi.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Paulsen fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Paulsen scores with a body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jan Paulsen dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kurt Uzi's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Paulsen with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Uzi is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nice uppercut lands for Paulsen. That snapped Uzi's head back.


Kurt Uzi's cut is getting worse.
Paulsen is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Paulsen dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Paulsen is looking to slow Uzi down with leg kicks.

Paulsen drops Uzi with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Uzi looks back up at him and smiles so Paulsen waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Uzi is rocked!
Paulsen connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Uzi to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Paulsen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jan Paulsen!
A less than humble Jan Paulsen misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
