The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takalua shoots in looking for a takedown but Kjartansson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Takalua's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Takalua looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Takalua tries to clinch but Kjartansson moves out of range.
Takalua tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kjartansson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kjartansson lands a nice looking body kick.
Jonah Takalua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Takalua closes the distance but Kjartansson moves to the side
and Kjartansson counters with a straight right hand.
It looks like Jonah Takalua has been cut.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Takalua.
Kjartansson thows a body kick. Takalua tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Kjartansson moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kjartansson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Takalua looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kjartansson lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Takalua is rocked!
Kjartansson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Takalua.
A punch combination from Kjartansson misses.
A nice leg kick lands there from Kjartansson.
Kjartansson lands a big head kick that sends Takalua to the canvas! Kjartansson follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Val Kjartansson is the new lightweight champion!
Val Kjartansson was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
