PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ron Damon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damon comes into the arena with Dies Irae blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Juan Sanchez enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ron Damon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the body from Damon misses
and Sanchez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Damon misses with a lunging right hand
and Sanchez counters with a body kick.
Damon just misses with a punch to the body.
Sanchez looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown but Damon shows good takedown defense.
Sanchez defending well as Damon loads up on a big left hand.
Damon misses with a left hand
and Sanchez counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Sanchez buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Sanchez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Damon.
Sanchez dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Damon. That did some damage!
Damon goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Damon takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Damon avoids the head kick by Sanchez.
Damon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sanchez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Sanchez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Damon.
Damon blocks a head kick by Sanchez.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Sanchez, as that shot connected.
Damon misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Damon misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sanchez.
Damon swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Damon throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sanchez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ron Damon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A nice leg kick lands there from Sanchez.
Sanchez looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
A punch combination from Damon misses.
Damon throws a body kick that misses.
Sanchez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Damon's waist but Damon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanchez off to one side.
Damon missing with a left hand there. Sanchez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Sanchez throws a leg kick but Damon sees it coming and moves out of range.
Damon gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Sanchez counters with a head kick.
Ron Damon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sanchez slips under a jab from Damon.
Damon throws a push kick but Sanchez slaps the foot to one side.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The fighters circling - Damon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Damon misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Sanchez counters with a thumping low kick.
Damon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sanchez was well out of range. Poor timing from Damon.
Sanchez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Damon tries to avoid it but Sanchez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Damon to the ground. Damon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ron Damon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Sanchez.
Sanchez has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sanchez there as he acknowledges the shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Damon. Sanchez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Damon looks to land a right hand but Sanchez moved out of range.

Sanchez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez is looking to take a break and control but Damon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Damon is looking for a sweep. Sanchez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Damon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sanchez is working away from the top position though.
Sanchez is looking to advance position but Damon won't allow it.
Sanchez controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A telegraphed right hand from Damon misses the target.

Sanchez connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Damon throws a big shot that misses.
Damon throws a lazy uppercut
and Sanchez counters with an outside leg kick.
Sanchez connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Damon momentarily.
Damon throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sanchez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Damon avoids the head kick by Sanchez.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sanchez. Damon does a little dance to reset his feet.
Damon misses with a wild combination.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Damon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanchez.
Damon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanchez manages to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Sanchez dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Damon punishes Sanchez's body with a nice straight punch.
Damon throws a jab but it's blocked by Sanchez.
Ron Damon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sanchez shoots in but no luck this time.
Sanchez throws a leg kick but Damon checks it.
A punch combination from Damon misses.
Damon misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Damon wants to slow Sanchez down by chopping away at his legs.
Sanchez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sanchez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Damon throws a low kick but it's checked well by Sanchez.

Sanchez throws a head kick that misses.

Sanchez clinches with his opponent.

Damon is pushing Sanchez up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Sanchez is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Damon is defending well.
Damon gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sanchez.
Ron Damon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Sanchez.
Sanchez slows down the pace here.

Damon tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Damon can't find room to land a body shot as Sanchez controls the action.
Damon is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Come on Sanchez - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
A nice right hand lands inside from Sanchez.
Sanchez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A hook to the body from Sanchez.
The referee is keeping an eye on Sanchez - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Damon blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Sanchez stalls.

Damon has hold of one of Sanchez's legs. Sanchez is fighting the takedown attempt but Damon gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Sanchez is looking for a triangle but Damon pushes his legs off easily.
Sanchez trying to keep a closed guard but Damon is proving a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Juan Sanchez will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Damon takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Damon lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Sanchez has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Sanchez and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Damon fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Sanchez on the side of the head.


It looks like Juan Sanchez has been cut.
Damon throws a shot to the body.
Damon misses with an uppercut
and Sanchez counters with a slapping leg kick.
Damon throws a one two combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Damon moves out of range of the body kick.
Damon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanchez manages to avoid it.
Sanchez scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Damon throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Ron Damon is winning the standup battle so far.
Damon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Damon throws a hook but Sanchez blocks it.

Sanchez avoids the body shot from Damon.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Damon tries to kick Sanchez off but Sanchez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Damon is staying active underneath Sanchez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sanchez trying to pass the guard but Damon defending well.
Damon tries to roll over but Sanchez keeps him under control.

Sanchez is looking for a kimura here.

Sanchez is working for a kimura but Damon is defending it quite comfortably.

Sanchez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Damon gets back to full guard.
Sanchez looking to pass the guard.
Ron Damon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Damon is trying to control the position but Sanchez postures up.
Sanchez tries to free his leg and advance position but Damon is retaining full guard.
Sanchez stays in close to Damon's body and controls the position.

Sanchez drops back looking for a leg! Damon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Damon manages to kick Sanchez off! Sanchez jumps back into Damon's guard.
Damon looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sanchez trying to control but Damon is working from the bottom.
Sanchez won't allow Damon to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Damon keeps moving.

Damon looking for a guillotine here but Sanchez defends easily.
Juan Sanchez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Damon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sanchez trying to control but Damon is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Damon looking for a guillotine here but Sanchez defends easily.
Sanchez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ron Damon.
I think Sanchez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
