Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Dungy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Cordes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Melvin Dungy has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Melvin Dungy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jorge Cordes!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dungy has Cordes up against the cage in a clinch.
Dungy misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Cordes.
Dungy has Cordes pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cordes manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Cordes prevents the takedown attempt.
Dungy is working Cordes over against the cage.
Dungy lands a body shot in the clinch.
Dungy tries to work over Cordes's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Dungy tries to throw a body punch but Cordes avoids it by throwing Dungy back against the cage.

Cordes jumps guard.
Cordes lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Dungy!

Cordes gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Melvin Dungy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dungy wants to land a leg kick but Cordes is out of range.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nice uppercut lands for Dungy. That snapped Cordes's head back.
Cordes takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cordes checks a leg kick.
Cordes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Dungy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cordes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Dungy lands a head kick. Cordes smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Nice uppercut there from Dungy.
Dungy tries to work over Cordes's front leg with a kick but Cordes checks it.
Dungy misses with a series of wild punches.
Cordes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dungy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cordes manages to pull guard.
Cordes wants to stand and escape but Dungy is having none of it.
Cordes manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Cordes looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Dungy is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Melvin Dungy will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Dungy looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Cordes throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Cordes pulls Dungy in close to prevent any damage.
Dungy is pushing down on Cordes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cordes is fighting to maintain full guard but Dungy has managed to sneak the leg through.
Dungy thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Dungy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cordes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cordes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Cordes is looking to control Dungy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cordes avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cordes tries to kick Dungy off but Dungy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Cordes is breathing heavily.

and Cordes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dungy won't be happy with that.
Cordes is trying to ground and pound but Dungy uses the momentary lack of control by Cordes to regain half guard.
Dungy wants to get back to full guard.

Dungy pushes Cordes off and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dungy lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Cordes swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cordes is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Dungy.
Jab from Dungy.
Dungy tries to clinch but Cordes moves out of range.
Cordes shoots in but Dungy avoids the takedown attempt easily.
No luck for Dungy with that takedown attempt.
Dungy lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Dungy moves into the clinch successfully.
Cordes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dungy prevents it.
Cordes stops a takedown attempt from Dungy.
Cordes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dungy smiles and moves away.
Melvin Dungy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jorge Cordes.

Dungy scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Dungy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Cordes counters by clinching up.

Cordes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cordes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Dungy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dungy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Cordes striking off his back, scoring a few points.

Dungy stands and steps away. Cordes gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Dungy is looking to slow Cordes down with leg kicks.

Dungy closes the distance and clinches.
Dungy is looking to control Cordes's arms but Cordes gets an underhook and turns him. Now Dungy has his back to the cage.

Cordes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dungy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cordes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Horrible takedown by Cordes or perhaps it was just good defense by Dungy which made him look bad.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jorge Cordes has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cordes tries to stand and escape but Dungy is controlling the position.

Cordes seems to be working for a kimura but Dungy defends the submission attempt.
Dungy is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dungy is staying active underneath Cordes, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Melvin Dungy will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dungy lands a nice short elbow.
Cordes wants to control but Dungy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Cordes closes the distance and clinches up with Dungy, looking for a takedown. Cordes pushes Dungy against the cage but Dungy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dungy is looking to stall here but Cordes recovers full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Melvin Dungy showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dungy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
