PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Macklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Macklin!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker looks for a takedown but Macklin sprawls well.

Macklin gets caught flat footed, as Baker shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Macklin can't keep his opponent in guard - Baker advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Baker thows a huge punch but Macklin dodges it nicely.
Macklin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Baker.
Baker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Macklin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Baker is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Macklin!

Baker is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Macklin has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Macklin!

Baker thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Baker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Macklin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Baker wants to sweep but no luck.
Macklin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Baker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Baker is breathing heavily.
Baker lands an upkick as Macklin stands over him.
Macklin wants to control from the top but Baker keeps moving.

Macklin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Macklin is nestled in close to Baker, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Baker is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Macklin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Macklin tries to buck Baker off but he can't manage it.
Baker is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Baker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Baker is working for a guillotine from mount but Macklin frees his head quite easily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Baker has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Macklin's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Baker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Macklin circles away.
Macklin misses with a few strikes there.
Nice takedown defense from Macklin. No joy for Baker on that attempt.
Macklin lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Baker backs up against the cage.

Macklin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Macklin is looking to stand up but Baker isn't so interested in that idea.
Baker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Macklin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
