PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alejandro Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Texas Get Up By Downsiid kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alejandro Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Will James!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Konstantin Menshow and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Castillo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Castillo scores a takedown into full mount!
James regains half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Castillo is looking for a kimura but James is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Castillo to get the leverage.
James is not content to let Castillo control the position.
James should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Castillo tries to pass to full mount but James defends it.
James wants to improve his position but Castillo is controlling well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Horrible takedown by Castillo or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.

Castillo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in James's guard.

Castillo is really struggling to control James but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Castillo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has James pinned against the cage. James gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and James decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Castillo's guard.
James controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Castillo is striking off his back. James thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
James seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Castillo tries to roll over but James keeps him under control.
Castillo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but James scores with a couple of nice shots.

Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Castillo shoots in for a takedown but James shows good takedown defense.
Castillo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

James tries to land a front kick but Castillo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Castillo wants to get back to full guard.
James is thwarting Castillo's attempts to control the position.

Castillo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though.

Castillo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Castillo is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

James is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alejandro Castillo will probably get the nod.

James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Castillo is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Castillo circles away and we're back to standing.

Castillo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and James counters with a single leg into guard. Castillo didn't expect that.
