The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Woomla with that takedown attempt.
Woomla fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Sapponen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sapponen lands in his opponent's guard.

Sapponen lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Woomla is trying to escape the mount but Sapponen keeps good control and instead manages to take Woomla's back.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sapponen is not going to allow Woomla to sit and survive in this position.

Sapponen has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Woomla has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Sapponen is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Woomla knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Woomla for a finish.

Sapponen is looking for a kimura but Woomla is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sapponen to get the leverage.

Sapponen drives through and clinches with Woomla against the ropes.

Sapponen tries to score a body lock takedown but Woomla shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Tomba Woomla has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hempii Sapponen.

Woomla manages to break the clinch.

Sapponen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Woomla sprawls well initially but Sapponen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Sapponen is taking a breather. Woomla says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
