Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pat Sumrall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Burt Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Pat Sumrall!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Burt Ward!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sumrall misses with a head kick.

Ward bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ward looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ward throws an elbow but Sumrall slips to the side and avoids it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sumrall is trying to get back to his feet.

Ward is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sumrall knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ward wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sumrall, who protects the arm well.

Pat Sumrall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ward forces Sumrall back against the cage and clinches.
Sumrall wants to get back to striking at distance but Ward won't allow it.

Sumrall manages to break the clinch.
Ward tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sumrall swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sumrall misses with a double jab.

Sumrall scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nice uppercut lands for Sumrall. That snapped Ward's head back.


Ward is rocked!
Ward drops his hands momentarily and Sumrall takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Ward is still on wobbly legs! Can Sumrall finish him?
Sumrall throws a head kick but Ward moves out of range.
Sumrall fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ward seems to have recovered his senses.
Sumrall is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ward.
Sumrall tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sumrall swats away the attempt to clinch by Ward.
Sumrall jabs Ward right on the nose. Ward blinks but takes it well.
Sumrall lands a two punch combo.
Sumrall looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Jab, jab by Sumrall - just one landing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ward is looking to clinch.
Sumrall throws a jab but it's blocked by Ward.
Sumrall throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sumrall misses with a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fight stays on the outside here - Ward looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Sumrall manages to escape and get back to his feet!
No joy there for Sumrall, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sumrall scores with a hook to the body. Ward takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Ward uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sumrall.

Ward shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ward wants to pass the guard but Sumrall is keeping the position.

Sumrall is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Sumrall is looking to break free of the clinch but Ward has double underhooks.

Sumrall blocks an elbow strike from Ward.

Ward wants the takedown. Sumrall is fighting it off but Ward persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Sumrall's guard against the cage.

Ward slips a straight right by Sumrall.
Sumrall swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ward dodges the punch combination from Sumrall.
Ward tries to clinch up.
Ward tries to close the distance and clinch but Sumrall swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ward shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sumrall as he jumps to the side.
Sumrall misses with a few strikes there.
Sumrall misses with a double jab.
Sumrall throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sumrall lands a two punch combo.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Sumrall throws a hook to the side of Ward's head but Ward sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ward fails with a takedown attempt.

Ward shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Ward won't allow Sumrall to get back to his feet.
Ward passes into half guard.
Ward trying to mount his opponent but Sumrall defends it.

Ward is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Sumrall has managed to free his arm - good work.

Ward is looking for a kimura but Sumrall is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ward to get the leverage.

Ward is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sumrall is just riding it out for now. Ward eventually gives up the hold.
Sumrall won't allow Ward to pass to mount.

Sumrall is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Ward is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sumrall has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Sumrall tries to buck Ward off but he can't manage it.
Ward with a couple of short strikes.

Ward with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ward is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sumrall has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Ward is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sumrall is surviving well by controlling Ward's body position as best he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burt Ward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sumrall drops Ward with a beautiful combination! Ward stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Sumrall is looking for the KO!
Sumrall circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Ward to the canvas! Ward doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Sumrall keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:16 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pat Sumrall!
