PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ben Poslett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Old English (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Poslett might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Kashmir - Led Zeppelin. Ben Poslett has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Old English!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Poslett moves into the clinch successfully.
English will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Poslett up against the cage.

English successfully pulls guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Poslett preventing the sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poslett trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
English keeping moving, preventing Poslett from controlling successfully.
English tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Poslett content to stall in guard here.
Poslett trying to control but English is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Ben Poslett wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Poslett rushes English and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Poslett has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but English regains guard immediately.

Poslett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Poslett is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
English utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
English keeping full guard, as Poslett tries to pass.
Poslett trying to control the position from guard on top but English is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Poslett tries to free his leg and advance position but English is retaining full guard.
Poslett controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ben Poslett just wasn't active enough.
Poslett tries to close the distance and clinch but English swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Poslett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts English as he jumps to the side.

English gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Poslett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. English swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
English not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
English has his hands on Poslett's head, controlling the position.
Poslett is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
English trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Poslett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. English swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Old English was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Poslett shoots for a takedown but English saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Poslett has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Poslett. That's going to take a lot out of him.

English closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Poslett quickly recovers to half guard.
English not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
English trying to control the action but Poslett is working from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

English is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Poslett sees it coming and defends easily.
English really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Poslett. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
English wants to lay and pray for a moment but Poslett keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

English fails with the takedown.
A head kick misses from English.

Poslett shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
English is trying desperately to improve position.
Poslett lands a big elbow.
English can't escape the position.

Poslett looking to secure an arm triangle but English defends it well.
Poslett trying to control but he's not successful this time.

English tries to hold on but Poslett pushes him away.

Poslett is trying to stick to English's back but English is turning into Poslett. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Poslett's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by English.

Poslett shoots in looking for a takedown. English tries to sprawl out of it but Poslett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. English manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

English is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Old English hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

English's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Poslett looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? English is fending him off so far but Poslett persists. Nope, English circles away and we're back to standing.
English tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Poslett paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Poslett dives in and grabs English's left leg, looking for a takedown. English pushes down on Poslett's head and hops out.

English shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Poslett's guard.

Old English has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
English tries to clinch but Poslett is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Poslett fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

English shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Poslett's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Old English will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Poslett takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
English walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Poslett checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Poslett tries to score a power double leg takedown but English sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Poslett somewhat.
Ben Poslett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Poslett shoots in for a double leg but English sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

English gets the takedown into side control.

English tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no English has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Poslett manages to get back to half guard.

English content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
English trying to control the action but Poslett is working from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Old English was stalling too much, according to the referee.
English pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

English drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Poslett gets back to half guard.
Ben Poslett overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
English takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
English wants to control but Poslett is keeping him busy.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Old English wasn't active enough on the ground.

Poslett darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

English is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Poslett pulls his head out easily.
English is trying to control but can't.

Poslett is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and English defends it well.
Poslett looks to land a strike but English avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
English is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Old English comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think English has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
