PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Rae (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonidas Worthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Daniel Rae!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leonidas Worthy!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksandr Martynov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rae doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Worthy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rae's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Worthy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Worthy stays in close to Rae's body and controls the position.
Worthy keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rae's head.
Worthy distracts Rae with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Worthy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rae is trying to control the position but Worthy postures up.
Worthy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rae's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Worthy decides to return to a standing position.

Rae missing with a left hand there. Worthy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Worthy just misses with a punch to the body.
Rae drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Worthy throws a body punch but Rae moves out of range.

Worthy rushes Rae and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Worthy pulls guard successfully.

Worthy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rae doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rae manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Worthy uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Worthy shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Worthy was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Worthy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Worthy lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Worthy working for a submission but Rae is keeping him at bay.
Rae tries to lock up and control but Worthy gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Worthy in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Rae wants to hold on but Worthy pushes him away.
Rae is breathing heavily.

Worthy working for a guillotine from mount but Rae is in no mood to give up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rae throwing hammer fists to the chest of Worthy. What's that going to do exactly?
Worthy lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rae hang on?
Worthy cracks Rae with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Worthy tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Rae defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Worthy.
Worthy looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Worthy landing punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leonidas Worthy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Worthy closes the distance and clinches.
Rae tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Worthy smiles and moves away.
Rae gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Worthy counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rae!
Worthy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Worthy goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rae turns into him and now he's in Worthy's guard.
Worthy has control of Rae's left arm, preventing Rae from doing any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Worthy is looking for a triangle but Rae pushes his legs off easily.
Worthy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Worthy controlling Rae's posture.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Worthy can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rae loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Worthy is pulling down on Rae's head. It's preventing any offense from Rae, at least for the moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Worthy can't keep his opponent in guard - Rae advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Worthy controlling the position for now.
Worthy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rae's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rae's back!
Rae wants to control his opponent's hands but Worthy gets his hands free.

Worthy is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Rae is taking damage to the body and head.

Worthy has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Rae's body.
Rae covers up after that shot from Worthy.
Rae is in bad spot here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rae wants to control his opponent's hands but Worthy gets his hands free.

Worthy is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Rae is tapping out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Leonidas Worthy!
