PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Afa Kevesi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kevesi has chosen Nation of Violence as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cain Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Afa Kevesi!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kevesi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smith sprawls well. Smith wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kevesi gets slowly back to his feet.

Smith gets caught napping as Kevesi dives in and scores a takedown. Smith manages to retain guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Smith trying to control the position.
Smith has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Kevesi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Kevesi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kevesi would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Kevesi from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Afa Kevesi was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Kevesi fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Smith to the ground. Kevesi is now in Smith's guard.

Kevesi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Smith dives on top into guard.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Kevesi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kevesi working for submissions but it's allowed Smith to get to half guard.
Smith wants to free his trapped foot but Kevesi is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kevesi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
Smith lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kevesi is trying to escape back to his feet but Smith uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smith laying and praying for a moment but Kevesi takes advantage and regains half guard.
Kevesi tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
Smith works his way into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kevesi takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Smith decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kevesi to his feet.
Smith is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kevesi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kevesi gets tackled into the ropes by Smith. Smith maintains the clinch.
Smith stops a takedown attempt from Kevesi.
Smith working hard to break the clinch.

Kevesi turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kevesi manages to end up in side control.

Kevesi has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kevesi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smith but Smith pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cain Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Afa Kevesi.
Kevesi gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Smith counters with a two punch combo.
Kevesi looks gassed!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kevesi, pushing him back against the ropes.

Kevesi manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Smith is looking to stand up but Kevesi won't let him.
Kevesi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Smith gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Kevesi. Kevesi gets slowly back to his feet.

Smith looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Kevesi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Smith slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cain Smith will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Smith tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Kevesi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kevesi shoots in but no luck this time.
Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Kevesi circles away.
Kevesi closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Kevesi pushes Smith against the ropes but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

A jab-cross combination lands for Smith and sends Kevesi crashing to the mat! Smith follows him down to the mat - Kevesi regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


It looks like Afa Kevesi has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Smith passes to side control.
Smith is putting a hurting on Kevesi here, landing some big shots from side control.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kevesi is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kevesi can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kevesi strikes from the bottom but Smith passes into mount!
Kevesi tries to hold on but Smith postures up.
Smith blocks Kevesi's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Kevesi tries to lock up and control but Smith gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Smith won't let Kevesi get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Kevesi is bucking up trying to escape but Smith cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith prevents Kevesi from getting the reversal.
Kevesi is breathing heavily.
Kevesi really wants to buck Smith off and get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The cut above Afa Kevesi's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Kevesi in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.


Afa Kevesi's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Afa Kevesi's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Cain Smith!
